And exactly what have they contributed to the actual research?

Intended or not, that is a contribution in the whole scheme of it.It may not mean anything to the Cypherites, but Machinists look out for the safety of the simulation and it's occupants. It is our methods that are different. That is the source of this recent pissing contest, which is really getting on my nerves now. Argue via PM's not on a public forum. It would be far more beneficial for the research to be done by both parties but then that would mean the Cypherites have no bargaining chip in the future. If you think about it, joint research would be done a lot quicker and more efficiently and would save lives and stability of the simulation a lot quicker than the progress already been made. So by keeping it to yourselves, yes you are keeping the bargaining chip, but you are allowing the simulation and it's occupants to remain at risk longer. So what is it you're really wanting? Stability of the simulation or a bargaining chip?
Respect has to be earned, not taken. Also, you're the ones gaining a bargaining chip, not the Machines or Machinists. On a similar vein, if it were up to some of us, all of your organisation would be disposed of.
Our job is done when there a no more Cypherites around...and it looks like our wish has come true. Soon you will just be a rat in megacity that the machines wants' to remove from the system. Why? You have no purpose anymore.
Well you just might want to get back to work because you won't be rid of us anytime soon.

That's an interesting point of view, even though it's a stretch to state the Machines created the man doing the research. This is hardly the truth as Cryptos is more like a result of a Machine failure, not something they designed and intentionally produced. It's quite likely they would have just terminated him had they ever thought he might one day not be under their direct control.
