Hi all,

I'm trying to download the game via the patcher, since my MxO CDs are missing.  After following the on-screen instructions from the web site (i.e. downloaded file, created directory and unzipped and executed file in said directory), I get the following error:

"Failed to create a copy of the launcher or a critical support library for patching.  If you have a file called Matrix.exe in your game directory, please make sure it is writable."

Of course, there is no Matrix.exe file included with the installer, so this could be the problem.  Then again, I remember doing this process with my XP computer and it worked fine...

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Kilo

Ok, if you have a copy of launcher.exe (which if you are getting that error message you will have) create a copy and rename it to matrix.exe

With this being Windows Vista, I'm just going to mention to make sure that you are using an administrator account to play the game and that launcher.exe has administrative permissions to run and the ability to write to the directory you've copied it to. SMILEY

f you would like to try downloading the entire game from the patch program, please follow these steps.

  1. Download the Matrix_Install.zip file to your Desktop.
  2. Create a new folder for your Matrix Online game to be installed into:
    1. Double-click on My Computer
    2. Double-click on Local Disk (C) (You may need to click on "Show the contents of this disk")
    3. Double-click on Program Files (You may need to click on "Show the contents of this folder")
    4. Click on FILE-->New-->Folder (at the top of the window) and name the folder Matrix Online.
  3. Now double-click on the Matrix Install.exe file on your Desktop to open it.
  4. Click on the Edit menu at the top of the window, and choose Select All.
  5. Click the Edit menu again, and choose Copy.
  6. Now switch to the MXO directory you created, and choose Edit->Paste.
  7. Right-click on Launcher.exe and choose Send To->Desktop (Create Shortcut).
  8. Close all open windows, and then double click on the Shortcut to launcher.exe to start The Matrix Online.

Choose to do a Full System Check from both the End User License Agreement screen, and from the Username/Password screen. This will allow you to download the entire game from the patch servers.

Disclaimer:  These steps were originally written by Cory S... he had no concept of "simplicity", it seems, so they are sort of... long... instructions.  They work, though, so I can't complain.  -jc

Dont Worry about downloading any stuff or what ever just do this, on the MxO Client right click and select <Run As Administrator>

The thing with windows vista is it will often oversee the exe.

I got the same thing and as soon as it said that I ran it as the Admin and it worked fine.

Hope it helps
