Finally. Here it is. The end to Awakening. I hope to start the next part in the chronicles of Oranos (currently called Convert) soon. I welcome all opinions aslong as they are given respectfully. I have no problem with constructive criticism, aslong as that is what it is: constructive. I hope people enjoy this.
Awakening – Part 3
Scott picked up the phone and dialed in the numbers. “Hello?” said Dr. Wall.
“It’s me! Mr. Edwards! I need to speak to you! It’s urgent!” He sounded frantic.
“Hmmm. Calm down. I’ll see you soon but tell me what’s wrong first. It will help. You sound scared out of your wits.” The doctor sounded concerned but fairly calm.
“I…I…I think I killed some people” Scott gasped. It sounded so stupid, but there wasn’t really any other way to say it.
“What do you mean? You think? Are these your dreams again?” Scott was sure he could hear the Dr. speaking to someone else quietly over the line. Maybe he was just being paranoid.
“Yes…and no. I dreamed…and the news…Blood stained clothes!...Please help me! I’m going insane!” Scott was starting to shout.
“I’ll be right there. Just stay in your house, and whatever you do don’t leave.” The line went dead. Scott sat down and stared at the ceiling; his mind racing.
*****
“He must be stopped. His mind is corrupted.” The voice came from a man in a crisp suit and tie. He was wearing sunglasses, and an earpiece.
“Yes. Hopefully he will do what I have said and stay where he is.” Dr. Wall had just put the phone down and was now resuming his conversation with Agent Harris.
“You have done well Dr. Wall. A successful upgrade on the last program that was needed for your job. Watching these “Special cases” is an important necessity to keep stability in the Matrix.”
“Yes. We had best leave. He sounded frantic. Human beings are rarely rational, especially in these cases.” The men left the room swiftly.
*****
Scott watched out of the window as the car pulled up. Something was not right. As Scott saw the man wearing the suit get out of the car with Dr. Wall he realized he needed to run. They’re coming to take me away. No! I haven’t done anything! It wasn’t me…it can’t have been! He ran out of the back door. As he climbed over his fence into a nearby alley he heard a cold voice shout “There is no escape! Give up!” He wouldn’t. He ran down the alley.
*****
“He’s running. You were right it would appear Dr. Wall. Humans are never rational. He shall not be able to run very far.” He ran towards the alley that Scott was currently running down.
*****
As Scott neared the alley he saw the man in the suit at the end of it. How did he get there so quickly? Before Scott even had time to stop the man was pulling out a handgun. He’s going to kill me?! “Wh...Why are you going to kill me? I…I surrender!”
“No Mr. Edwards. The risk is too dangerous. You have already murdered blue pills.”
“Bl...Bluepills? What are you talking about?!” Scott started to step backwards. There was no way to go, but that was not going to stop him from trying to escape. However, he never needed to do so. Before the suit got a chance to reply several things happened all at once. Far too many for Scott to make sense of. 5 Men seemed to appear out of the sky and land in-between him and the suit. They were clad in trench coats and strange attire just like the man he had seen the other day.
“Broomfondle, get him to safety. We’ll hold off the Agent!” the man closest to the suit said. Scott assumed he was the leader.
“Mr. Brend, stay out of this. You know nothing of the situation.” The suit started to point his gun at Scott’s forehead.
“We’re allowed to free people Agent! You machines know that. Don’t go against the truce. We’re leaving with him!” The man, Mr. Brend, stood in between Scott and the suit.
“Step out of the way Mr. Brend or I will have to take action against you!” At that moment Mr. Brend ran at the suit and sent a kick to his face. Scott never saw if the kick contacted because at that moment he was pulled down the alley by one of the others; the one they called Broomfondle.
“Wh...Who are you people?!” Scott asked feebly. He had seen too much and he felt like he was slipping out of consciousness.
“We’ll explain soon. For now let’s get you to safety!” At the other end of the alley a car pulled out. The others got inside and Broomfondle motioned Scott to do the same. He complied.
*****
As the car started to drive the driver began to speak. “Operator says the Agent killed Ibis. Ibis told him he couldn’t even land a punch. At least the distraction worked. Luckily the extraction point isn’t far from here.”
“De...Dead? Because of me? I’m sor…” Scott never finished the sentence. He faded from consciousness.
*****
Scott opened his eyes. Before they were even opened fully he needed to close them. Everything was so bright. Bright and blurry. He could hear people around him. “He’s awake!”
“Wh...Where am I?!” Scott’s whole body felt like it was in pain. What had happened to him?
“Just relax. Your body is being used for the first time. Your eyes will begin to work properly soon, but for now you should just try and sit calmly.” The voice he heard sounded like that of the man who had fought the suit, but how was that possible? They said he had died…
“But…”
“Just relax! We’ll explain everything soon. It will be a lot to take in. But for now, welcome to the Real World.”
