Went to see it last night. Im in no way a trekkie. Really couldnt stand the show. But this movie really kicked some arse. Took my father in law to see it. He is a die hard trekkie. He was definately impressed with it. Was a very good twist to it. He kind of explained some things to me. I definately would say to go watch this movie.
The opening kicked arse, TONS of it. The rest of the movie wasn't quite as good as the opening but still awesome. Chekov and Scotty are my favourites, was just waiting for them to appear and do their stuff =P
I saw the original series when I was a kid but was only moderately interested. This movie was so good that I could well become a fan.
Sure, there were some things to nitpick here and there, but overall it was fking entertaining the whole way through. Loved it.

Im sure a new TV show will be spawning if not already in the works. But if they can keep up the lvl of entertainment or aleast close to it. I can definately become a fan. I already been itching to go see the movie again lol >.<
Thoroughly enjoyable, I loved it. I agree with Bay, there's little things I could talk about. Seeing the entire timeline of Trek being essentially wiped clean (at least for movies and TV shows) irked me the whole night after I saw it. But, I understand it's an AU and now they can do whatever they want and not infringe on the canon of the original Trek universe.
Best movie of the summer so far, even from a non-Trekkie point of view.

Timeline thing bugs me too. That was the movie killer for me. I wasnt to impressed with Quinto's Spock, but I did love the new Kirk and McCoy, thought they were done very well. Spock was just to... angry. I realize that was kind of a plot point, but I didnt like it.
Overall, I wont say I hated it, but I think it should have been better. Just didnt feel like Star Trek enough for me.
WTB moar McCoy
I heard R2 D2 (from Star Wars) is in one of the scenes in the movie. Anyone notice which scene it is???

To be honest after watching the film it wasn't bad, however It was just a Star Trek action film and it didn't feel like a proper Star Trek film which usually revolves around the family of the officers. It was probably better than Insurrection, but it doesn't top any other Star Trek film in my opinion.

It was different because the old formula of stories that revolve around tolerance, galactic diplomacy, and the idea that even through adversity the future can look brighter and more wonderous that we can imagine doesn't sell movie tickets. Moviegoers find that boring and not worth their $10 to see. What I would suggest doing if you like Star Trek is to continue to read the books that come out. The ones that Pocket Books put out are really good and satisfy that Trek need we don't get on TV anymore.
And yes, it was better than Insurrection. Better than Nemesis too, imo. Here's the thing though. It looks like the 'Star Trek Movie Curse' has switched. It goes that the odd-numbered Trek's are of lesser quality than the even-numbered ones. Nemesis was Trek 10 and was weak. Now that Star Trek is Trek 11, and is great, it breaks that rule. Guess this means we'll have to wait for the sequel to see if the curse has really switched sides or not.

As I said to me, as a Star Trek fan, it just didn't feel like a Star Trek film, and definetally wasn't as good as Nemesis. At least nemesis managed to bring out deep hidden emotions in people, and there is nothing in Star Trek (2009) that was as moving as Data's sacrifice in Nemesis.
Nemesis is probably my personal greatest film of all time though as I love the TNG period so I maybe a bit biased, but what I do know is, just because a particular formula doesn't sell movie tickets to the general population doesn't mean that everyone hates it, which is why I personally prefer the majority of the old films to this latest one.
