Now, I know this is not the NR boards for Recursion, but as I see it, that is more-so for actual RP stories and events playing out, whereas my idea is only an idea, and one that would (hopefully) affect the Recursion world as a whole. Anywho, here a couple of the things I have been thinking over for a long time, and now with the loss of liaisons, feel I should share with those who care.

First idea/suggestion: Liaisons. Of the people, for the people!

I've heard all of the usual comments about the liaison program, about how it COULD be great, and the problems it had, but how they could be solved, and yadda yadda. The fatal flaw in the program, it seems, was having to rely on a player. And even the 'good' ones were targeted by general killjoys who think that routing out a liaison's identity is fun.  Anyways, my point is that while having a player be in this position was a cool idea, it was often (from all that I've heard) an idea that worked out terribly. So here's what I saw out of this.

If a liaison is going to be a player, it makes sense for players to have more than just a little input. Which is why I propose to you, the reader, to the notion of ENTIRELY PLAYER-CONTROLLED LIAISONS. This is not just because we have no Dev Team backing anymore, but because, to me, it makes sense.

If we, the players, vote in a liaison or choose one to represent us, what could go wrong? Worst case scenario is something does go wrong, and we as players replace said liaison. Pretty simple, right?

So to expand with a bit more specifics an example of the idea would be to have each Org (along with EPN and CYPH) to elect (yes, the elections could even act as their own non-RP events) a "liaison." This would not be a new character, just someone from within your ranks who suits the position of helping your ORG (or terrorist cell) become more RP-inclined. Faction leaders would then communicate with their respective liaison (or another one, I suppose) and the liaisons could all get together, sharing ideas and seeing how things could be planned and played out properly. This is the simplest form of the idea, but it has the flaw of being very complainable. That's right, "complainable". The method of choosing a liaison for an entire Org is sure to cause dissatisfaction throughout ranks. Sure, we may not ever be able to make everyone happy, and this simple form might be easiest, but it was not my original idea, only an advisory from an experienced friend. A good one, mind you, but I also like my idea.

It makes the most sense to suggest both the above idea as well as my original one, and see what all players think.

Faction-oriented liaisons. It sure sounds complicated. But the way I see it, either your faction wants one or it doesn't, and you have the choice in adding to the fun or not. No one is being left out, but no one is being forced to join in.   Assuming factions could choose a "liaison" without too much trouble, then we have the same system as previously mentioned, only with more people. Factions/faction leaders would discuss ideas with liaisons and liaisons could mention them to eachother. This comes from my initial thought of, "If we seem to have so many factions with cool internal RP, why not try to branch some of them together and then the whole population would be back and involved in one way or another?" This way, more than just Org vs. Org RP could occur easily, but 'official' RP references leading to faction rivalries or partnerships.

And now a couple of general points about "liaisons" to clarify anything:
1. Chosen by players (either by faction or by Org). This way, can also be changed by players if need-be.
2. NOT a new character. No identity to be leaked if none is covered, and players can continue whatever roles they have been enjoying for years while still working on RPs for the community as a whole
3. Since this would be entirely player controlled, "liaisons" have no RP purpose (other than to be planning/discussing said RP with other liaisons) unless people decided that being a liaison should also mean you RP-ly become a spokesperson for Org-to-Org/Faction-to-Faction communications, or something like that.

I swear I am probably missing a point or two that was in my head when I thought of this, but I am subconsciously attempting to condense this as I tend to go on for a really long time with ideas, and not usually in a very organized fashion. So of course, questions and comments are welcome, and either I will remember things or have my eyes opened to points I never considered. Finally, onto a slightly different idea.

Second idea/suggestion: The RP Underground

This is, again, an idea I've had kicking around for a while.

Where we do have some groups or teams who try to put on cool events for the game as a whole, this group would be a bit different.

It would be more-or-less a group of names. There is no sort of exclusitivity here (minus clear cause for not being allowed in, like constantly ruining other people's events, of course) and no need for secrecy. My vision is a list of people who sign up purely to say "I like to RP and would be happy to do participate in it." This is not signing up for any specific RP, nor saying you will take every chance that arises to fill a position.

While I would like to hold some events, like many of my friends, they simply never work out. Lack of support or what-have-you, what it all comes down to is planning an event can be very difficult, especially a successful one. So for the numbers of people I've heard saying they WANT to do an event but can't manage it, this would be for you.

When you need a hand developing an idea, you could come here. If you just need a couple more characters to be in your RP, you could come here. With a giant list of names of people willing, it shouldn't be hard to find people to help out. Just to be clear this isn't a party planners, where people are hired to do everything. This is merely an aid for those who need some help getting their idea going and who are willing to do the work to get it there. This would, of course, also work nicely alongside player-picked liaisons, and events they want to make happen.

So basically, the fine heads up-top of RP Underground would have this huge list, and offer varius people roles or chances to help someone develop their story 'now-and-again.' Players would ask these up-top people for assistance, and then the up-tops would go through the list. Or something along those lines, there clearly needs to be slightly more to it than that.

Oh, and if it did spawn a slightly more select group of people who wanted to be Team Underground or whatever to make some interesting events on their own (with members helping with roles, of course), I'd be all for that, too.

IN CONCLUSION (since I ramble):

1. Liaisons who have nothing to do with this game other than working purely for the RP purposes of players

2. A list of those who are willing to RP so that they can find their chances, as well as give aspiring RPers a place to seek help

As I said in the first part, I'm sure there's things I have thought over but left out, and both ideas could use some clarity/flushing out. But both ideas are entirely group-oriented and not a one-man job. So unless a group of people are willing to get in and help flush it out, they are both doomed anyways.

Questions and comments are encouraged as always, but please nothing to harsh PMs are also accepted if for whatever reason you would rather not have people see your post, or if you'd rather say something to me personally than to the subject in general (plus I am always looking for friends ).

That's it.

((Edit note: Just remembered. It would be awesome if either of these ideas worked on the other servers as well (although the RPU idea doesn't make sense not to) but for the time being I thought I would see how Recursion would react. ))

1- the liaisons

A majority of people tend to stick to only live events, as this group wouldn't be used, endorsed or recognized by rarebit one is inclined to point out that their usefulness or value is minimal, but for the sake of a certain group or player events team it could be used- but ultimately doesn't really need an a election, all in all i don't really see why you'd need liaisons let alone elected to liaisons to advertise player event which each and every server has a thread for that.

2- the RP player list

Create another thread or post somewhere stating that that is what your after - a list of players who can help, want to, are interested in Roleplaying - even have them state whether they are more interested in helping or participating in the event - and players can just come by and post their names on it.

It's been done, but it can easily be done again.

That being said - we'll see how much use it serves.

-

Or don't, just an opinion.

The idea of liaisons wouldnt be so much promote events, as to promote the idea of making them. Whereas some factions have some really cool events and RPs going inside of their factions, the idea would be to have people working together how these or other ideas could branch out and people directly involved into the story, rather than just being able to show up and watch things unfold.

For example, one faction might decide to start some RP friction with another purely for the fun of it. The liaisons could help the leaders (who may not be so RP-inclined) to  put together an event or two that would start this up and create more interesting day-to-day RP.

At least, that's how I was thinking of it. Maybe people wouldn't be interested in those kind of smaller events to create more personalized stories, I don't know. But that was my general idea.

As you stated though, if these liaisons did nothing other than advertise player events, they wouldn't have much of a purpose. They'd need to take an active roll in making things happen.

Oh, and as for the group thing, I did think about starting a different thread, but I figured I'd see if anyone had enough interest in either of these ideas in one "ideas" post, and then develop them from there and then post them, since they aren't fully worked out ideas.

I assume the point here is that the idea would never work Well, although I'm not going to read through all the responses of "No"'s and "Pwned" and all that, from what I gather from the responses that I saw that seemed even half-serious, the point of that was the suggestion to make someone an official liaison which wouldnt work because he'd have no connection to development team.

My idea clearly states that these liaisons would have nothing to do with the development team and be for player RP purposes only, nothing to do with being 'official'. If people don't want that kind of liaison, that's fine, but just don't say my idea doesn't work because of something it isn't meant for.

If what I gathered out of the jokes are correct, that is. If not, please correct me with words rather than a link

((EDIT: I second-guessed myself and thought I'd skim a few more of the back pages to make sure I wasn't ignoring something serious... silly me SMILEY So on that note I realize this might not be any sort of comment on my plan, rather than a fun reminder/reference... either way.))

I'm all for having some kind of behind the scenes RP event team, and I'd be glad to help out. I've got an event coming up soon and I'd be glad for the help, plus I'd be glad to help someone else with their ideas.

I actually like a combination of both of these ideas.  Faction-based liasons seems a little easier to organize with probably less drama come elections time, and I also like the idea of a list of players who would like to be included in any player events.  The faction liasons could manage the list of their members who want to participate and share with other faction liasons should a player have an event idea.  I think you're onto something here.

You, my friend, seem to understand my ideas here SMILEY The fact that you seem to agree with me is a plus, too. I just wanted to mention, since I don't think I mentioned this previously, that in the case of faction-based, liaisons there might be no need for 'elections.' If a faction WANTED to, it could be fun (I was involved in a faction-based election that was quite fun before) but if the faction can instantly come to an agreement as to who would be perfect, no reason why they can't just jump to that point. Election was just an idea based on the fun I experienced in the one I was part of.

Oh, also, liaisons managing a list of members within the faction who want to participate and sharing is a good example of exactly why I liked the idea of having them for factions. Though I never used the exact words you did, but it's a good example.

Something that has nothing to do with the above quote:

One other proposal I just thought of is to not refer to these players as "liaisons," possibly. It seems only to carry a negative vibe, since we have nothing to do with official development, which is exactly what "liaison" used to mean. I don't have a better suggestion, I'm just realizing now that it might be clearer, in a way, not to refer to them as that.

There are so many negative responses because, honestly, no one takes Skull serious as a member of the RP.

I'd like to see the liaisons (or "contacts" as they're now called) remain active and keep things continuing. Zion had a nice plot going on apart from the storyline that was carried out by Merrit and Kerevola (and I believe at least one or two others who were playing more minor characters). I think we'll continue seeing some of that, at least.

As for player groups... There was an effort with the PET a while ago that never really got off the ground. And of course, there's Algorithm: Black, which is putting on a new event sometime soon.

I had thought the Liasions were no longer a part of the picture.

Am I misdirected by this thought?
