Hey...I got the game yesterday and....it's going UNBELIAVABLY SLOW. Yesterday the game took  a whole day to download, and it's still not finished! I thought to myself, this can't be the correct speed it's going on. Then, I found out the reason it's going so slow is because I have a 56 K modem. I heard there was a way to increase my modem with Windows XP home edition, if that's true i'd really appreciate it if someone could me. Thank you for reading this post...

I just reinstalled the game on my new PC, and the updates are 1.3 Gig or so, perhaps a bit more. Not surprised it would take a loooong time via modem. Sorry bud -- without high speed Net, you're gonna hafta wait it out. SMILEY

Good thing is, most people say that the game actually plays pretty well on dial-up.  It doesn't make the patching any faster, but at least the final result will be a playable game.

yeah any updates are going to be slow on a 56k, because of the sheer
size of it, theres nothing that can be done about it other than
switching over to cable of DSL or something like that.

Ive heard the game is playable in 56k, just i would avoid all the busy areas such as Mara C.

Installing a Windows 2000 modem driver (and not an XP one) on WinXP will make the modem run faster, but when I say faster I mean that XP restricts the max speed to 44.1 - with the Win2000 driver, you may if you are lucky get 48 or 50Kbps - however, this will only save you about 15 mins on a 48 hour download.

I started this game with a dial-up account and switched to dsl a month ago - the funniest thing that got me after swapping over - the in-game lag is still just as bad on DSL as dial-up..... I think you need a direct 1G connection to the server and I'll bet it will still be laggie as hell.... What a rip-off...

Chase444,

Have you considered taking your PC to a friends high speed location or possibly an internet cafe?  I do know there are places that allow you to hook your PC up to their network for a fee.
