We just started playing MxO and we are only going to be playing for a month.  This is part of an experiment; a trek across the MMOs, if you will.

Given that I've only got a month, what do ya'll recomend that I experience? Should I run every mission I find to get into the story, or powerlevel to experience all the options?

Any recommended Archive missions?

If you could only get me to see one thing about MxO, what would it be?

I understand that Roleplay is one of the major draws of this game; how does a Non-Roleplayer who hasn't even seen the third movie get into it?

Whats your opinion of SOE?

What is the best source of information about the game? Is there a wiki?

I guess your best options would be to get in contact with a high level player who's got time to run you through all the hardlines, show you around and supply with needed combat and spy abilities. Especially the latter, since that will up your chances to move around and explore without being shot on sight, wich can open up alot of interesting areas for you.

Your best chances are to ask people who actually reply to this thread, or talk to people that hang out at the popular spots.(Tabor West, Tabor East, Camon Central, Mara Central, Mara Northwest, and hardlines near org-related archivists)

Since you are only doing this for a month and playing for the first time, your chances of leveling through to the newest and freshest content are little, so you should enjoy what you can. Get to level 15 asap though, that opens up alot of stuf like the archives, the awesome Yuki construct wich is set in an unfinished version of matrix, and quite a few exile hideouts.

Again, getting help from higher level playres is not cheating, its essential. Interaction with peoople is essential.

Wow, I started to answer this thinking it would be relatively easy. I find myself having a really hard time making a recommendation here.

 Welcome. The Matrix has you.

Any recommended Archive missions?

If you only have a month, I suggest the following:

  • Level to 10 doing contact missions, tagging all the hardlines, and cracking all the neighborhood access nodes.
  • After you've hit 10 and chosen the organization you most identify with (you might even consider joining a faction, even if only for a short time), play around with the different loadouts. The best thing about this game is the ability to change 'professions' on the fly.
  • Experience the MxO storyline -  there are two chapters you should get into, more than any of the others:

  • I recommend you go about this in the following order: watch the cinematic first, browse the Sentinels from that time, and then do the corresponding Archive missions. DO NOT WATCH the DotD cinematic until you've finished all of the Hunt for Morpheus chapter.
  • Then, spend the rest of your time working on the Pandora's Box quest. In my opinion, it's the best content created for MxO to date.

Aside from the Combat itself (our Interlock combat system is truly unparalleled in MMO's), I would say the Pandora's Box quest.

Get into the story. Not having seen the third movie might even serve you better than if you had seen it. Of course, as a fanboy, I strongly recommend watching it.

From my POV, SOE tends to take a quantity over quality approach to MMO's. Instead of trying to match Blizzard's numbers with just one title, they are taking marketshare on ALL their titles together. This is a good financial strategy, but it sucks from a player's POV because it means that each game suffers; some a little like EQII, and some a lot, like MxO and Vanguard.

Well, there is a wiki, but it's not very helpful. I'd point you to these four sites as being the greatest resources for the game:

Omega Syndicate's MxO Fan Site - http://www.thematrix.rumbaar.net/index.php

Othinn's History of MxO - http://archivalscience.shock-therapy.org/

Superjenius' great story resource - http://mxo.mxostory.com

Riac's Outstanding new resource site - http://mxomainframe.com/index.php

I've been working on a player guide, but it's not nearly finished. It does have more links and such, though - http://matrix.hax.nu/mxoguide/guides.html

Other than that, enjoy your stay. You'll be back. No one ever truly leaves this game.

There are a number of excellent player-made movies you should watch by the likes of Beachhead, Aquatium and Odj.

In one month of respectable game playing you can achieve a decent level and thats not by powerlevelling either. There is a lot to do, as outlined above, but it doesn't come looking for you, you have to go looking for it but it's not hard to find.

Synchronising new hardlines, getting the collectors items, visiting exile hideouts, doing the seduction missions (by pressing 'n' you call up Tyndall to begin with who introduces you to the basics of missions, after a few of these you get contacted by Flood {Merv} and Agent Gray {Machines} it's at that point you can decide where your character's loyalty lies Zion, Merovingian, or the Machines {remember though that you can change it in the future if necessary}) doing archives of the highlights of the past story, contact missions, visiting contructs (first one available to you at lvl 15).

PvP is also fun but finding people close to or at your own level is fairly hard, but if you can get into a /duel you'll see how the combat system works against a human opponant rather then an NPC. RP is good to watch if anyone is doing some at that time, join in if you feel you can and if it's open. Videos, as Cads mentions above are a good way of seeing just how game elements can be used to make a good movie.

Don't let lvl 50 people who are standing around a HL tell you that there is nothing to do or it's boring, just remember that they've in all likelihood been playing for a long time and have done most things, you on the other hand are experiencing everything for the first time. Just to note, don't get stuck doing basic missions via the 'n' key. They are basic and often very repetative.

Don't be afraid to ask questions in game, as with all social interactions while you do get some *Expletive Deleted*'s you do get some very helpful people too so don't be put of by the attitudes of some when asking for help/guidance.

So welcome to MxO, enjoy your journey down the rabbit hole!

Mara C is the hardline which Vinia is talking about. There are a few other hardlines where veteran players often frequent, depending on the servers those would be Tabor West on Syntax, Camon Central on Recursion, Tabor East on Syntax and Recursion, sadly I don't know the meeting points on Vector yet myself. Those other places mentioned are more populated by "interactive" players (many of them are Roleplayers), so asking those players for help will more likely yield results.

Have fun, you'll be back for more after the 30 days. There's a saying around here: The prophecy.

Welcome to the Best Little MMO on the planet!!

Hrmm..no one has asked yet ...surprisingly(sp)...What server did you and your group choose?

Vector-hostile: Hostile as in once you hit lvl 16 you are 'perma-flagged' and can be attacked and/or attack other orgs openly     /friend DrSmith   <---hit me up for help

Syntax : most EU population and good RP...to flag you must type /pvp        /friend DrSmlth        l = L

Recursion : good population but the drama...Ohhh..the drama :*) <3 you guys        /friend DrSm1th

Let us the community know where your all at and we can swoop and help.

Welcome to Mxo!!!

if you ever need any help on the Vector-hostile server im there for ya

/ca azarazamataz

i know it's long -_- lol

If your interested in RP and the Story aspect of the game you should probably do the Critical missions and then begin with the Archives and continue from there, it's best to do them solo as you learn more about the story then with someone else there, although maybe that's just me XD

if your interested in exploring the world then it's probs best to ask a 50 to take you round all hardlines of the city im sure people would help out.

If your interested in everything about the game i would do a bit of each, probably get yourself into a good faction and start leveling while going to different places etc.

And if your one of those folk like me who aint that much of a RPer like me, then im not sure as you only have one month and to be honest it isnt exactly the easiest game to lvl on >_> lol

Hope you enjoy the game SMILEY

I think it's nice that you're doing this, but I urge you not to take your month here as an overall idea of what this game is about.  I would say the game gets even better once you hit max level.  I've seen many bad reviews done on mxo done by people who didn't stick around long enough to see how good the game really is.

:: Waves:: Sieges on Recursion here! Glad to see you found us, and I hope you stay for more than a month: there's really more to do than one month would really allow you to enjoy. If you want to catch up on the story, hit up the organization Archivist book stores (Mechs = Midian Park, Merv = Appollyn, Zion = Moriah Projects) and buy the Archive Mission tickets. If you have a question, feel free to ./t me! Have fun and welcome to the Matrix!

You'll either like MxO or you won't.

If you do, you'll be hooked. If you don't, you'll probably never see these forums again.

Wow, thanks for all the replies.

I am on Syntax as Lochiel, currently lvl 6.  Not sure what everyone elses names are yet as we are still transitioning over from Tabula Rasa.  Having serious lag issues in the Exile Hideouts.  I haven't figured out if its Client Side, network, or server side yet.

I'm planning on going for level 15, then hitting up the archive missions for the Hunt for Morpheus, Death of the Destroyer, and Pandoras Box missions.

I've played enough MMOs to not trust lvl capped players who "are bored".  If they got there, they must have enjoyed something SMILEY  Anyways, I have never gotten to the level cap on any MMO.  I tend to enjoy the journy and not care about the destination.

I'm not "reviewing" the game, just looking at it.  I know that no MMO can be well evaluated in a month, but with 40+ MMOs on our short list and over a hundred MMOs online and active, we don't have time.  If I don't understand a concept, or come to a conclusion you disagree with, please let me know.  You have months, if not years, of experience with MxO and there is no way I'll be able to compete with that.

Again, thanks for all the welcomes and the helpful info SMILEY

Are you using an 8 series card? If so, you're going to have horrendous lag indoors, but there's a fix to that. That fix would be here.

You know what, scratch that. I totally did not check your link in your original post.
