Well, seeing as how I am apparently the unofficial poster of video game related topics, I shall post one on Deadspace. I rented this last weekend on the PS3, and I am a pretty big fan of survival horror games... and this honostly blows every other one out of the water. It has amazing graphics and sound, a pretty good story with lots of background presented through audio and date files, no HUD at all which makes the game very cinematic, the atmosphere draws you in and you can't stop playing, and it has Space Zombies. Also, the space walking sections of the game are awesome. When you are in space, theres no sound except for what you can hear from inside your suit, like you breathing. You can hear gunshots from your gun, but they are extremely muffled and is as close to "real" space physics that you can get. And also, the game is actually pretty scary. I played the game in glorious High Defintion and Surround Sound and in the dark from 8pm-6 30 am one night, then 8pm-12 30 am the next to complete it... and the game just keeps the tension and scares that you don't want to put down the controler. Also, the final boss... while its an actually pretty easy battle, just the scope of it is EPIC. I thought it was a cinematic at first, and that I was dead meat... but it turned out to be gameplay and was very intense. And the high production values and general all around awesomeness of the game comes from a very surprising source: EA. So kudos to EA, to finally making an original IP in recent memory that is very fun. Also, there is a religous cult called Unitology in the game that is obviously suppose to be Scientology, so if you do not like Scientology, I highly suggest picking this up ^_^
All in all, I'll give this game a 5 dismembered body parts out of 5. And I highly recomend it to anyone with access to a PC, PS3, or a 360 who likes survival horror games or just action games in general.
Well I thought it's going to suck, the only thing I liked from the trailers was the HUD (the one you call up i-game in 3d). But it seems it wasn't really all that bad. Maybe I'll give it a try.
Well I was thinking about getting Deadspace but I prefer RPG games over shooters and whilst it looks pretty decent and it's definitely part of my favourite genre, I decided to pre-order Fallout 3. Perhaps for Christmas I might get Deadspace...
I love the "Twinkle Little Star" commercial for it. I was planning on doing something like that for MxO and Row Your Boat.
I don't know if I'm actually going to get the game. I mean... me and my friends are always shouting at the top of our lungs "SHOOT HIM IN THE HEAD!" How are we going to put that to use in this game? t.t
...
THIS AIN'T NO CUTSCENE (Press Z or R twice)!
My roommate constantly harasses me to get this game, but I haven't seen any torrents for it yet. >_>
It looked pretty decent to me, although it didn't seem like anything spectacular. However, after seeing Ebola's reviews added to the mix, I guess it's more than worthy of picking up. I'm excited because it looks like the game we can come home to after midnight and sit down and start playing in the dark and lose our minds to.

Indeed, though honostly its better if you both play it seperatly so you get the feeling of isolation that you are suppose to have.
Wonder how the PC version plays... I'm not a big fan of console games (especially console shooters - can't aim with controller heh).

Strangely, I can't really find any PC reviews of the game. I assume it controls well though, you turn pretty slow on the console version but thats part of the game. And yeah, good aim is a must, as you need to shoot off limbs to kill the zombies quickly (if you shoot off their head, it just makes them mader :p) But you only need to use one gun in the game, its the first gun you get. And it has like, a wide hit range, so that makes aiming on arms and such not so bad. Just upgrade the first gun you get as soon as possible for uber pwnage.
Strangely enough, I always want to play horror singleplayer games, because the plot in the game is actually pretty decent (most games to be scary have to have at least a "believable" plot). Although since I hate scary games because they scare the kajeebus out of me, I won't play them. Man do I hate stuff like, "hurr you're isolated, and suddenly monsters jumping out, thousands of them" or the inevitable, "lol go into deep dark scary tunnel/vent now, kthx".
Don't forget to grab "Deadspace: Downfall" when ya can. It is sort of the prequel to how what goes on in the game.
Or just buy the ULE Someplace which comes with the game, DvD, and a few other things
EDIT: Just a quick note. The DvD comes out on the 28th of october as a stand alone on both Blu-Ray and HD-DvD. So a bit of my paycheck is going to that and then later that week grab the PC version.
I finally got Dead Space for PC last night. I woke my roommate up with it this morning. I have to say, it was a great deal terrifying even during the day. I look forward to nightfall. We've filmed quite a few "gameplay" videos, that is, videos of us playing the game and screaming every time something explodes out of a vent or slices off our collective head. I've got two of the shorter and funnier videos to share, although I haven't uploaded yet. There's one of my roommate blindly running along catwalks and being assaulted by zombies left and right after he ran out of ammo too.
Only played an hour, but I'm going to have to say that this game looks like great fun.

I hope you're not saying that a starship engineer in space battling monsters is believable. ;P
I was at Gamestop today, and I had the choice between SH: Homecoming and Dead Space. After playing through two hours of the 5th installment, I highly doubt that this is scarier.
I'll probably be proven wrong when I get paid next week, though.

Okay, well a plot that makes sense. I always want to know why the monsters are there in the first place, and usually story-writers pull it off very well.
If you want to see an example of what isn't a good story, try looking at Baroque. God is that horrible.

Agreed, I absolutely hated the Wii port of this game.
I just bought this game today (PC version) and love, love, LOVE it. It's definetly scary, the atmosphere is very tense. The controls take a little getting used to but are rather intuitive and useful (Especially the Curb Stomping). The only thing I'd really ask for is a quick turn around button that makes you quickly face the other way cause stuff loves to jump you from behind. Thankfully when you do get jumped just hammer the E button and you'll drag them off you and stomp them to death.
As far as weapons go the starting gun is good but the Line gun is good for blowing the legs off badguys and the flamethrower is good for killing the little rolling Bast**ds.
I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who liked System Shock 2, The Thing, Alien/Aliens, Event Horizon or just enjoys washing brown stains out of their pants.
