Our lab has carefully reproduced this issue. We noticed that when unplugging one of the power connectors to the 8800, and leaving just one plugged in, we started getting indoor lag. When the card was receiving full power the issue did not come up.

This leads us to believe that either your power supply is not sufficiently supplying your Video cards, or one or both of the power connectors are not plugged in.

I find it hard to believe everyone on this forum with an 8800GTX has insufficient power...

In these tests were you happening to be running Vista? Cuse Vista eliminates the lag problem (but adds graphics bugs.)

** EDIT ** Also it has just occured to me, if it is a power problem, why does it not happen in every other high stress graphical game I own? Its strikes me as weird the only game in the known universe that pushes the 8800's power needs past it's limit is MXO...

I dont think that they have closed the case on this, they will be just giving out hints, when they find another fix, they will post that aswell.

Well I spoke to my friend who put my PC together (Who happens to be an Nvidia Technitian) says that the powersupply he fitted should not be causing any problems like that.

He also says that issues like this are generaly ONLY solved if the game Devs contact and work with Nvidia... But since this game isn EQ2....

I just think it's awesome that the devs are giving this problem time and consideration.

However, it seems pretty obvious that the power supply is not the problem, demonstrated by the fact that people with more powerful versions of the 8800 and much higher wattage than me are having the exact same problem.

Phi had some extremely interesting comments about the problem over in Warboy's thread, which I'll repost here (hey devs, can we combine the two threads?):

Phi wrote:

The 8800 Series GPUs have a major shift in the way the processor works. In particular the way occlusion ("Do I draw this or is it hidden behind something else?"SMILEY is calculated has changed on-chip. The problem is based around an issue with the drivers, but is exacerbated by being indoors, as there is outside stuff being blocked by walls. The lag seems to be caused by the drivers doing too much work to figure out if you can see the outside stuff or not.

We care for all our products (even EQ:Mac, despite popular opinion to the contrary!) and are willing to investigate anything that is causing players malaise inside the game.

Unfortunately, I don't know what else (other than the "power" thing) could be causing this, but the data that's been provided thus far is interesting.

Please make sure your lab tests this further. As the power theory is not the problem.

My logic dictates that if you were having a power supply problem with a high-end GFX card (my knowledge being based on high-end ATIs and my Nvidia 7950GX2) you're most blatant indication would either be no signal or fan failures (I have three 90s in my Antec P180B case and I've tested lack-of-power)...which would cause overheating, which would result in more than likely artifacts then no signal. I do apologise.

I'm not usually the sort that trolls around MMO forums ripping the developers and support staff. This problem has just left me a little bitter.

Still i am of the opinion that this problem can't be solved without a combined effort between the Devs and Nvidia.

I don't blame you or anyone else here.  It's a highly aggravating issue and we hope to track down the cause and quash it as soon as possible.

I've submitted all data found so far to the Quality Assurance team for investigation.  Unfortunately, I don't know when it will be resolved, but it is being investigated.

You guys rock, Jason. Thank you.

Tell SOE that I said you deserve a raise and more employees to join your team and help out.

Thanks Beachhead, that's exactly what happens to me, as well. Sometimes it's not as bad as that, sometimes it's worse.

One more unhappy camper here SMILEY

New subscriber, same 8800gtx card, same problem, came to the forums to see if anyone else has indoor choppiness and find a solution and i see this thread....ouch, not exactly what i was hoping for SMILEY

Hope they find a solution for this because its pretty bad, and no i dont regret for a moment getting the 8800gtx, it was worth every penny in my opinion, its a pleasure to be able to play any game on the market at maxed settings without a shadow of lag. So far this the only game i had problems with. Its a shame because this game is surprisingly good, i never expected it to be that good given how underrated it was.

Thumbs up for the good support despite the lack of popularity of this fine game.

A thought occurred to me while I was troubleshooting a similar issue in another game forum.  It isn't a particularly good idea, but it may work (let's hope):

Go into the nVidia control panel and enter the "Additional Direct3D Settings" section (may be hard to find -- you might need to use CoolBits or NVTweak to get this to show up).  There should be a setting called "Max frames to render ahead", which is probably set to "3" or something by default.... try setting it to "0" (or "1").  This may improve performance in a few games, but may reduce it drastically in others.

Please let me know if this helps.

Coolbits does not work for the 8800 series, it caused a registry error which i now have to fix... and learned about after i installed it. Ntune supposably handles everything now. I will look into this further i suppose.
