New computers shouldn't be a cause for nail biting!
Key word... shouldn't lol
LOL!!!
I Will!!!!! ...after I'm sure everything works like it ...should. hehe
Well that sucks. D: I'm sorry. " /> If it makes you fell any better, my last computer I built online, waited like a month, was really exited cracked open the box. I picked up the cpu. I noticed it was light... really, really light. So I got a screw driver and popped the case open, and there was nothing in, just an empty case. they forgot to put it together. LOL " />
Phluff... if the PSU was dead there's typically two things that cause that:overload - the psu might have been switched to the wrong voltage or the local power surged and blew it. Make sure your screen runs from it's own power socket on the wall... don't chain it off the PC (when everything starts up the surge can trip fuses). If this is the case the motherboard may also be damaged from overvoltage. Get them to check it throughly.damage - dropping in transit often cracks things that then blow when powered up. If this has hapened the HardDrives may be damaged. Run a full hardrive scan when you get themachine back and if the drives are dodgy get them to replace them. If you wait they won't accept liability. It could be worse... you could have just spent a month waiting on an $8000 Rack-mount UPS (and had two major projects waiting because of the delay)... only to have it arrive with a huge hole in it thanks to a careless forklift driver. Honestly, how do you not notice a 4 inch hole with battery acid leaking out?!Well good luck. I hope it all works out ok. " />
@phi - Yes. That's exactly how it should be. Phluff - Ouch. Talk about anti-climactic. I also have a terrible history of having power supplies die out on me; but on a brand new system, that's even worse. My deepest condolences. May your hardware swap be as painless as possible.
Thank you Ken ...maybe it was women's intuition. I knew something was going to go wrong. *sigh*
The main things to remember when replacing the PSU are:Don't tidy the wires until after it's all pluged together.4When tiding the wires (to increase accessability and air-flow) make sure to keep them clear of fans and harddrives. They stop fans and melt on HDDs.Buy some cheep zip-ties to tidy the wires, you can always cut them off if you need to. Rubber-bands deteriorate and break very quickly inside a PC case. Make sure that if there is a voltage switch on the back of the PSU that it is set correctly. If you have it set for the wrong voltage you will blow up your PC components (yes, really, BANG! explosions and smoke)
Thank you Phi! Will phollow this info!
...oh lawd help me.
Called tech supprt, did a test on the power supply. It's dead. Power supply is dead. Completely dead. They are shipping me a new power supply on Monday. I should have it Wednesday or Thursday, then we have to swap it out.Phluff is sad. Really Really Sad.and... extremely phrustrated. =( =( =(
