Well, figured I'd ask for help here...  hopefully someone can help me.

Built a new computer last week, and I've got it set up to dual boot Vista Ultimate and XP x64.  I mostly wanted to keep XP around so I could play MxO (since I'd heard about some problems with Vista).

Anyhow, I started playing the game on XP, and I've got some bizzare crashing and sound issues.  There's a weird electronic whine that seems to happen at random in the game (almost like feedback), and the game seems to crash every once and awhile...  (screen goes black and I have to do a hard reboot of the system).

After screwing around with settings, and not having any success, I decided to try my luck on Vista.  Now, I've had the graphical problems most have had, but I found that using that useropts workaround helped a lot.  As far as sound goes, though, sound effects in the game sound very tinny and low quality, and they stop playing after awhile.  Music sounds great, and that still plays, but sound effects just disappear.

Help with either system would be great.  Ideally, I'd like to run it on XP, so if anyone has answers for that, it'd be most appreciated.

My system:

ASUS Xonar D2 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Ultra Fidelity Sound Card with Complete Dolby/DTS Sound Technologies
Radeon HD 3870 X2 1GB 512-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 in Crossfire
Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 3.0GHz Quad Core processor
8GB DDR2 Mushkin memory

All drivers are up to date, and everything runs fine...  except for the issues I've experienced in MxO.

Thanks for the help!!

Hmm. I'd like to have my Tier 2s take a crack at these at the very least. Could you send me a PM with your account name and a reachable E-Mail address and we'll go from there?

Wow... I'd be very interested to see how this turns out.  I just ordered a computer with specs VERY close to yours.... hope I don't have the same problem when it comes in, which will be in about 2 weeks.

Hopefully not - But if I can figure something out with Fen, then it might serve to assist you if you end up having similar issues.

I'm seeing a few cases like this and I'm wondering if it is anything to do with your system being 64bit instead of 32bit.
MxO is only intended for single CPU 32bit systems. Fortunately it doesn't seem to have too many problems with the multi CPU situation.
