What do people think to possibly us getting a figure of how many players are currently subscribed to the matrix online even if its just accessible only by the players who are subbed up and then we can see how our progress is doing through advertising campaigns and recommending the game to friends and people.
A simple counter would suffice but least then we can aim at targets and help ourselves to boost the game I for one am wanting to play this game for some time to come and feel allowing us some involment in the progress/decline of the game has been well deserved considering the crap SOE have thrown at us and shoved down our throats.
In the spirit of the red pill alliance!
WE ARE STILL HERE!
So lets see how many exactly haha
This hasnt been put in development roundtable intentionally as it is for discussion before I post it as an Idea for the imaginary devs to decide on! Im sure Virrago or someone could do this if we wanted!
sorry, I'm not in favor for this idea cus vet players come and go all the time.. no way of knowing the number of players, some are here for a month then leave for a few months or years then come back.. umm I rather not know how many ppl we have. i'd say leave it be and besides that SOE won't spend a penny on promotions, etc. I thought this idea was brought up before...
Pretty sure its SOE policy not to reveal sub numbers or decline/increase trends to the public
yup. so this is another useless thread among thousand others in DN1.

Its useless threads that keep DN1 going, nowadays

Sad, but true. If it weren't for the useless threads, then there would be no updates on the forum except for the three people that are actually enjoying the game as is talking back and forth.
Also keep in mind, the numbers would be skewed by the simple fact of people subbing more than one account
however, you dont have hundreds of vets coming and going, so that wouldnt really make a difference to the numbers even if SOE did publish them
SOE seem to have bizarre rituals as a company, why they wouldnt do some of the things they should is bizarre, every other MMO lists its subscribers, most of them even tell you the exact number of people currently logged in before you put your password in
I tried to get numbers from SOE last summer...better luck getting into fort knox.
I did hear from a reliable source though that the number was hovering somewhere around
40-50,000 at that time.
Now I have noticed a lot of fresh meat since the station pass was introduced, so YMMV.
X.

I really don't see what the problem is. EVE even breaks it down to ppl playing & even trial accounts playing. I'd like to know. As for the three ppl playing thats rather harsh - I know on Rec we're not tripping over ourselves but my Vector RSI is having fun yet & the lvl 2 redpills are still coming through.
I am one of those new players. Played WoW, GW, LoTR, etc and I really like the Matrix so I thought I would give it a try. I have to say that some of the game is very impressive, but this game is not very new user friendly.
The tutorial I took was broken. It involved some ai shooting at me, and even though he was standing infront of me in plain sight I continued to get an error that my target was not in sight or something along those lines. Then I ended up in a subway where I was supposed to use a phonebooth. Well problem there is when I clicked on the phonebooth nothing. After restarting the character again I managed to get through the tutorial.
There just seem to be a great many things about this that are not really designed to draw players in. Take just a little while ago. I was in Mara, I thought from the story this area is safe from agents. I was hanging out at the hard line, an agent level 250 kills me. I come back and wouldn't you know I die again. At this point I logged off. Maybe I don't understand why exactly an area that is supposed to be "safe" has a level 250 agent running around killing things. I thought at first it was part of the story. The problem with that is that if the Agent were there as part of the story he would be hunting all of the Smith virus programs that were around him and not a level 15.
Earlier in the day there were problems with people being flagged for pvp even though they had not entered pvp.
There have been numerous problems in just a few days, and that has really turned me off of the game. I can only imagine how bad the problems must be for players that have been around for awhile. If there are that problems in such a small area, I don't know if I want to see the rest of the game. That isn't everything, I could go on about problems with the jumping system, clipping issues, graphical anamolies etc.
I really like parts of the game though. The first time I "hyper jumped" it was awesome. I probably jumped over and over again for a good hour just looking at it. I like watching the higher level players fight because it looks so much like the movies when they start dodging and shooting. Even with all of those good things I don't know if it is worth it. I went ahead and paid for the game so I have a month to check it out. So far I have met some really nice people, and thank goodness for that. What the game completely lacked in information those people made up for. It really is a good thing because the game is painfully lacking in information. It doesn't tell you a good many things, and from what I have found out some of what it tells you is just completely wrong.
Anyway you were mentioning newer players, and I wanted to tell you my experience so far. Maybe someone will read it and try to fix a few things. I get the sense from most players that this game is about dead, but if you want to bring in newer players I think fixing things like tutorials and providing ample information would be a very good start. Remember that the majority of your audience is going to be either first time players, or people from games like wow and they need that information because things are very different here than other mmos.
It turns out most of that can be attributed to madness resulting from the Anniversary event. Smith is loose in the city, not just in the form of Smithlings but also in the form of Smith Virus Virions. The SVV is a luggable, this means you can pick it up and carry it or place it in the world. A luggable gives you various kinds of bonus but makes you trackable and flags you for pvp. You retain the effect of a luggable until someone else picks it up or you relog. The SVV also has the nifty side-effect of making you look like a Smithling and making you enraged. The level 255 Agent you saw in Mara would usually have killed a single target and despawned but it had been infected with the Smith Virus which made it enraged enough to attack anyone it could get its hands on. That explains most of what you saw yesterday.
As far as your experience with the tutorial goes, it sounds like you disconnected from the server in such a way that the client will keep running on it's own. This can happen from time to time when certain actions are taken. Typing /jackout and moving to cancel the jackout is one way to resynch with the server that can sometimes solve this problem.

Ah, I didn't know that thanks for telling me. Like I said the community for the most part seems to be the best part about the game. I will say the majority of the players I have met generally make up for all the bad parts of the game. New players though don't always meet helpful people. I read some of the stuff in the redpill rescue, but even then there is so much that I wish was clearer.
I can't really stress the community part though. See in games like WoW the community can be really harsh. So having people that are helpful and nice really goes a long way towards getting people to stay. I wish that this game accepted user content then some of the people like you that are knowledgeable could write helpful stuff to be put into the game for players to read. I know to older players that are used to the system it might sound strange, but if you imagine being completely new to this game the more information the better.
I will give you an example, the heals I found in the hacker line. In every game I have played group heals are more expensive, and heal for less. Here though I found the basic group heal to be cheaper and heal for more. That was really different for me. I wish there was a list of things that are different than expected like that. Then I could read that list and sort of get an idea of the system. Not sure if that makes much sense, but basically it would help newer people to understand the way some of the things work that are unexpected. Also is there a good attribute guide around. Like someone that has reached level 50 and can give a suggestion for how to spend attributes and such. In some games people have guides an example:
hacker
level 1-5 put x in x
level 6 - 10 put x in x
with maybe some suggestions for the best skills to use around in those levels. I don't know if there is anything like that, and if there is please just excuse the suggestion.
