It's Tuesday, August 28th, 2008.  There is/was a lunar eclipse today, and so also a full moon.  If it's between noon and four PM eastern time, I'm in surgery for what I hope is the last repair of my ankles.  The simple arthroscopy should easily rinse out bone chip(s) from the joint, and the surgeon will take a look around in there with the camera/forceps tool to make sure about it.  Since they are going to put me under general anesthesia, there is a very small chance that I'll get to find out about that whole heaven / hell / pergatory / reincarnation / oblivion / city of the dead / summerlands / happy hunting grounds thing before any of you do, so na-na-na-na-na-nah.  I get to face death today, stare him in his bony face and demand the money he still owes me from last time.  What did YOU do today?

If I don't make it back I expect all of MxO/Recursion to throw the biggest party since Morpheus kicked it, and share stories of my life and times in Megacity.  Then, I expect an NPC named PS10N to be placed near Sai Kung Central, telling players to work together to code one another abilities and other items, and generally help one another and work toward things greater than can be accomplished alone. (Hey, if I'm dead, I can make unrealistic demands and there is nothing you can do about it!)

If this is my final missive, then listen up (I've said this before but you weren't listening)
LOVE AND CARE FOR ONE ANOTHER WITH COMPASSION AND UNDERSTANDING.
Because if you don't have/give the love of friends and family, ya got nothin'

If you happen to get this while I'm under, send me some love / light so I don't wander.  Thanks!

From Beyond (ooooooooooo)

THAT ladies and gentlemen, is a (possible) goodbye thread.

I'm certain you'll return, PS1ON, and look forward to waxing philosophical again.

The surgery went as well as can be expected. Thank you all for the concern and caring.  ath3na, thanks for the luck, it came in handy. imax, I don't have the Melee Accuracy to nut kick the almighty because he has god Melee Defense.  Trayen1, thanks for the tip on not walking in to the light.  Instead I drew it down into myself, enveloping and permeating my being with it.  Everyone should try that sometime, it keeps you energetic and young when done regularly.  Zippy, I told everyone who attended to me in the hospital that I did not want any drug that was not absolutely necessary for a safe operation.  They offered me an amnesiotic to make sure I wouldn't remember anything at all about the period I was under.  No thanks, Cryptos, I'll take the Red Pill.  I've spent my life relying on a very detailed, precise and long lasting memory and I don't care who says these things are "safe," if I don't need it, I don't want it.  I may have been given an amnesiotic at one or both of the previous surgeries, I don't remember.  (heh, that last wasn't meant to be funny but it sure was)  They offered me Valium because they thought I would have anxieties, but everyone should remember that there is only one thing in the entire universe that will kill them someday, which makes dealing with everything else only a matter of time.  Dealing with time and death have always been big on the list of the enigmas of human experience.  Face them with composure, and ... well, there is a song that puts it better than I could.
When you learn to love yourself, you will dissolve all the stones that are cast
You will learn to burn the icing sky to melt the waxen mask
I said to have the gift of true release, this is a peace gonna take you higher
I come to you with my offering, I bring you strange fire

Chemuel, I chuckle-guffawed at the ultimate goodbye thread.  "I'm going in to battle and I may not come back..." how Matrix. I thought about doing the entire thing IC, but my RP time was limited and I didn't want to confuse people more than is necessary.

Thanks again my friends.  And, if you were one of the fortunate few to know Scorpia from MxO beta, who is since passed on, take a moment of silent prayer or meditation. "Let us remember those that have been lost. And let us give thanks for those that have been found and who stand here beside us"

Profound gratitude for all in the universe that brings health and friends, and to those friends... /drinkbottle

(Amazing parallels between surgery and Awakening Process... whoa...)

Phew, how's the recovery going?   Still a bit painful?

Can't believe you passed on the additional medication, but I can understand since this wasn't exactly routine and you wanted to remember every minute of it.

Did they put you under or have local anesthesia?  I mean without some kind of anesthetic (analgesic), I'm guessing a patient would pass out - only so much stress one can handle.  If they put you under, did you dream or have any weird visions or sensations?

Frankly, I don't know what's worse, being awake (able to observe yourself under stress yet eerily numb) or being asleep and missing the entire thing.  I think most people would choose sleep for the major stuff.

[Looked up the song on Google because I didn't recognize it.]

If attitude has a lot to do with recovery, I'd say you're well on your way to full!  You made it through something that would shake most people up; congratulations, presents, and celebration are in order, but I bet the feeling you get from knowing you looked into the abyss and are alive is an even greater reward!  Still pretty scary if you ask me.
