All these fun pics from Fan Faire have really got me jealous as to how we Europeans have largely missed out. I know that there have been regular requests that SOE hold the annual event in London one year, but realistically, that just won’t happen.

In lieu of this, I was wondering whether SOE UK might hold an equivalent event over this side of the pond, on a lower budget of course. It might even be that we could get a video-link to Rarebit et al, for a conference of our own. I'm also sure that Euro-types could produce a whole new level to the drinking binges which Fan Fair caused!SMILEY

I used to know of a "high-up" in SOE UK but have lost contact in the last few years. Has anyone else (/target Devs; /cough) got any thoughts on whether this could ever be organised? Since SOE is actually a Japanese company, there must be some potential to have a convention in a location other than the US...?

I agree. I feel badly that there isn't anything for you guys across the pond.  Heck, I'd even try to come to a Fan Faire UK, so I could meet all the players that would attend.  Meeting External, Yasu, and Tseng makes me want to meet the rest of you. SMILEY

im fairly sure soe is parented to the american division of the sce but im going off track.  but behond the flights which you can get fairly cheap if you book qutie some time ahead its pretty cheap to go to fanfaire really. the hotel was peanuts and food and drink again you get twice the portion for half the price near enough. you should consider comming out next time americas really not as expensive to do as everyone makes out really.

Tseng is correct, it's really not as expensive as you would believe. Flights to Vegas were as cheap as 400 quid when fan faire was announced, sharing with someone in a hotel which costs $400 means the cost is cut in half then cut it nearly in half again because of the exchange rate and suddenly you're forking out somewhere in the region of 600 quid on flights and a hotel. Again the exchange rate would count in your favour in terms of spending money as the exchange rate is near to double, so 200 quid spending money is nearly 400 dollars and thats you pretty much set on a budget of 800. Of course thats basing the prices off of Vegas and booking early, booking early to an East Coast destination would probably be even cheaper.

I agreed Coro, that would be some awesome event. We talked about a EU FanFaire meeting before and as I remember there was one looong time ago. I just came from visit one of old faction mates in US and what a real cool experience that is.

Sign me up for EU-Fanfaire 2009!

Providing it wasn't in the UK, I wouldn't mind. I prefer Fan Faire in the US, though.

Barely anyone from the US would attend, and as they make up the core demographic, it's barely be worth hosting,

A non Fan-Faire London/East Coast US 'meet and greet' is in order.

Plus I doubt the americans even know that Europe exists.

There are plenty of Europeans who play SoE games who would be more able to attend a Euro version of Fan Faire then the usual US version. I'm sure there would be enough to make it worthwhile. It doesn't even have to be on the same scale as the US, certainly doesn't have to be a 3-4 day event.

It would be interesting to know the last time they checked the balance of EU subscribers and protracted income they'd recieve from the event and how it would balance against the costs of shipping many workers over to Europe for the event.

My preference still stands at it being anywhere outside of the UK, I prefer to go to places I haven't been. SMILEY

Yeah, I have learned of quite a few New Yorkers that play this game. I would really like to attend but I don't know that I can organize it.

Most EU SOE employees still live in America anyway. It's just not cost effective to fly however many CSRs to another continent to milk subscribers for less.

I suppose that, as a business, they're not really gonna throw some cash at doing something like a mini fan faire in Europe in case they make a loss. While it would show us Euro peeps that SoE loves us too, I guess it makes sense to them to have it based in the US even if only a small percentage of non-US players can afford to spare the time/cash to travel there.
