The General is a shrewd and cunning mind. I would not be at all surprised if this apparent mutany causing him to run with his tail between his legs is merely a ploy to lowwer our guard towards the simulacrum and assume the General is on the run... If it really was Morpheus that was killed by the assassin, and it really was his corpse that exploded into a cloud of flies, what's to say that this sim that has been filled with the appearance, behavioral patterns and recordings of the real Morpheus isn't acting like a lightning-rod attracting more of Morpheus' mind into it (assuming that morpheus' psyche was partially or completely dispersed into the code of the Matrix).

Who can say what unpredictable things may be happening now that the reset cycle of the Matrix has been brought to a halt.

 

Nothing ever goes quite right...

Whilst there is currently little to support such a theory, I like this idea alot: It holds a certain symmetry. With all this corrupted code which is flying around Megacity at the moment, it would also be a very nice fly tie-in.

My initial thoughts were not as well constructed as phi. I simply considered the classic downfall of evil tyrants generally (no pun intended), and how they can often hold a pivotal role to the outcast minion. Might this simulacrum hold the key to the end of The General?

((Another Euro-friendly LE with a good attendence by many of the influencial figures on Syntax. It was also nice to see The Big Man mixing it up; even if he was a fake. A nice simple event to offer us all some closure on the "Is he/isn't he? debate. Nice :thumbup)

Then again perhaps this "empty shell" will find a new alliance with Cryptos. A shell created hollow and a Whole hollowed out... the first created to abuse Morpheus' legacy... to destroy the peace. The second made that way to prevent morpheus' ideals from coming to fruition. Two that search for the purpose that gives reason for existance.

A new begining? Perhaps for Zion a new unified path, instead of just damage control. Always running around trying not to tick off the machines. I'm sick of stopping people from doing things, wouldn't mind actually working toward a positive goal for once.

Hmmm.... I like your positive attitude, but matters can become hazy when one looks so far in to the future.

The current Machinist "I told you so" mentality is needless, and fails to recognise that all theories were solely speculation and equally valid. Debate is healthy, but retrospectively dressing your speculation as fact is somewhat unnecessary.

Machinists and Zionites should avoid such one-upmanship and focus on constructive issues. That said, I offer my congratulations who were first to consider the connection.

If we fall in to this pattern of behaviour, we risk the situation of a theorist becoming less forthcoming with their ideas; for fear of being latterly ridiculed.

Do not mistake my words as "sour grapes"; I appreciated the Mech call for caution as being sensible and I personally adopted a "wait and see" attitude. I realise this is essentially a non-opinion, but I felt unable to commit to a theory with the information we previously possessed.

Hate to have to say it, kids, but: we told you so! However, all credit goes to Zampano who was the first to voice the suggestion that the General was directly behind this, months ago before it had even been discovered that the signal was fake. Everyone else in this thread who saw this coming only worked it out after reading what he and the Machinists said. Or, I guess, worked it out only recently, when it became even more obvious after it was determined that the signal was a fake.

To all the I told you so's... Whatever. It's not like everyone said you were wrong. It seems to me that prety much every possible outcome was speculated on ... so someone had to be right.

Unless you made some money by placing a bet shut your yap. you sound like a frickin' 3 year old.

And no... I'm not oposing your ideas, it's what I suspected too. I just think you're making yourselves look like jerks.

As for the sim's rebellion ... it would seem that the General's biggest weak point has always been rebellion within his ranks. It was a turn-coat that helped rescue Sati, and it was a turn coat that gave us this recent development.

As for my theories... I'm sure the truth of what is happening is much more mundane... but I like to stimulate the imagination.
Although I still believe there is a fair chance that Morpheus left for 01 to find Neo, then the General noticed he was gone and replaced him with the sim that went and caused all the havoc with the bombs.
