Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE) today announced a progressive new scholarship program with The Art Institutes designed to educate and recruit more women into the video game industry. The official SOE G.I.R.L. -- Gamers In Real Life -- scholarship is the first of its kind with The Art Institutes to encourage students toward career paths in the creative and applied arts, ultimately resulting in the development of games that are more interesting for women to play. Thats good, its about time we got some more real women into gaming, rather than all these shims...

Yey! My school! Art Institue of Seattle!
Hmmm - if one really wants to get into games they should go to Digipen. Digipen is the premo Game dev. school - it's Nintendo's school. I was walking the halls there with some dudes and I asked, 'How many girls attentd this school?" They said - "maybe 3, I dunno - I wish more girls went here. >.<"
I studied some 3D art for game design a little in AIS. But it wasn't nearly enough. But they are right ... not many females are in the video game industry. Just like with most of the animation community.
Can I ask why is that? I would love to be painting some of the textures for this game or re-designing some of the Exile Hideouts (dungeons). But I guess that is all Rarebit's job right - hmph. He's already territorial enough about his job as Content Editor Chief - "lead desginer" (snickers to self). Just imaging if he had someone else - like me- to compete with in there. I think he wouldn't be very happy. It woulnd't be all his anymore.
Here's to hoping.

I think he'd be utterly relieved. It's SOE who isn't assigning anyone new to the MxO team - Rarebit isn't keeping them out.

I said it once I will say it again.. **.... I had my fair share in this lifetime as is. Getting my *CENSORED* handed to me by a female competitor.. Be it from a mere TCG *cough*Yu-Gi-Oh*cough, To high stake tourneys for cash amounts *cough*LAN Parties for First Person Shooters and Online competitive game play*cough*
The horror I now will face soon enough... Competition for a job.... And given I am male. I don't and won't wish to understand this whole equal opportunity.. Sickens me.... Both genders can do different things DIFFERENTLY. Or not even be able to. And for game design.. One is asking for something of the "Hello Kitty" crap. If some female is appointed a job..
The day I lose to a woman for a high stakes job for something im passionate about.. IS THE DAY I DIE. Any whom ya just know females will get the upper hand.. And not cause of smarts.. Cause im sure every testosterone driven male will be wanting in that females pants.. If a female lands a job. In a male dominate area...
In fact. I think the battles been won to females... So ..... Anyone care to "Take This Life"? -_-

It's a scholarship. Not affirmative action or a free ticket into the highest positions of SOE.
Get over it.

So... Avalod.. you didn't learn your lesson when you started a heavily racist thread, so now you're moving on to sexism?
And for future reference, I do loves me some Hello Kitty, but I can rage ruin on an airsoft field with the best of the boys.

This is interesting. I'm fairly anxious to see what someone could make of an opportunity like this.

Let's not turn this into a male versus female bashing thread.
Half the population is female. If you want to sell your games to that demographic then it would be best if you had more females designing games.

It's 2008, and a lot of people have a hard time coming to understand just how many women there are in the workforce, and more importantly, how many women there are in careers that have up to now been predominately male-dominated positions. I'm talking about careers in the military, software and hardware development, and heavy technological fields. The fact of the matter is that you'd be hard-pressed to find a female anymore who wants to be a housewife or stay at home mother.
There's simply nothing about it that's appealing.
I don't look at the female presence in the workforce as something that creates a threat for the male employment status, I look at it as an inevitable change in the times. Besides, if I were to lose a job opportunity to someone else, I'd much rather lose it to a member of the opposite gender than to an illegal alien.
