Today is the official United States observance of the Veterans' Day holiday, which is actually on November 11. It marks the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice, which ended the fighting in World War I in 1918, but it doesn't just honor that occasion.

Veterans' Day is a holiday to celebrate world peace, for which many men and women have answered the call of their countries to defend. It is a day to honor those both living and dead who have put their lives on the line for what they believe in.
