I know Beta and Monolith-era players have kind of fought over bragging rights in the past; but I would say now that the SOE MxO era has hit the three year mark, can we agree that those of us who have been here the full three years are really all veterans?  And as such, I think it would be appropriate to reward our loyalty and commitment to this game with some type of vet reward.  I think they've handed them out in other SOE games, and I think it would be a nice gesture to us if we could get some type of clothing or anything to signify us sticking with MxO for so long.

Any thoughts?

With the way players are leaving, I'd say players that are here for more then 5 months are vetrans, and those that have been here for over a year ( no break ) need to check into a rehab XD

I think vet rewards for 1 year, 2 year, 3 year etc. subscriptions (without getting banned or canceling subscriptions for periods in that time) would be awesome. SWG players enjoy these for much lesser periods of time. MxO players who've stuck with the game for this long are plenty deserving enough. SMILEY

As far as what they might be .. hmm.
  • emotes
  • hairstyles
  • hair colors
  • body art
  • chevrons or something which appears in the character details panel
  • a sound effect or musical chord which plays when they step out of a hardline
  • access to a private "hovercraft" construct which they can share with teammates/factionmates
Trying to think outside the box of clothing and stuff ..

I could see the Chevrons being possible with out an animator....."new" emotes, hairstlyes and colors, sound effects......maybe but that would be annoying to the player and other players after awhile, the hovercraft while something a lot can wish for, all but the sound effects needing an animator which of coarse we come down to the stem of all the problems MxO has, No funding.

It saddens me.

I ask for a backpack, since we can't get more inventory space, maybe another inventory could be made into a backpack or something.

Sure all good ideas, you're thinking outside the box.  Although I wouldn't ban ppl who might have had *short* periods of time out of game due to RL issues or whatever.

Maybe a clothing item(without buffs) that show that we are here from the start.Or how about a perpetual!!We already have a lot of them...It's really not that hard to find something to give to veterans if you think about it.They just don't want to do it!

Ah, but then it wouldn't be a vet reward, now would it? It would just be a "thanks for playing some" reward.

This argument has been going on for years and it always results in the same thing: the alienation of some group of players by "elitists" and has caused massive community meltdowns in the past topped with ridiculous forumzdrahma.

Then why not have it set by total subscription time rather then concequtive subscriptions

*wonders if unsubbing just before hitting the 3rd year was a smart move*

EDIT: And guesses that this is a request that should be sent to Virrago from the community so it can be sent to the Devs.

I disagree on two points:  If you are really hardline about any gaps then you knock out a ton of people who might have switched payment methods or something, and if they've been offline for one single day in three years then that invalidates them and makes them the same as a person who played for one single day in three years.  This isn't rocket science.  Just common sense.

Secondly the arguments in the past as far as defining a veteran had to do with those who played in beta and those who were present during the Lith era after launch.  Thats why I'm saying lets move beyond that and just start the clock from when SOE took over the game. Besides, its traceable on SOE's part, I don't know how if they'd even be able to access the Beta or Lith numbers.

They're not gonna do 'Vet' rewards i.e. just giving something to those who were here at the start. Like you said it would alienate certain groups.  Anyway beta players already have beta clothing which is unique to them and them alone. Besides, the term Veteran doesn't mean 'been there from the start' it means 'experienced through long service or having served for a long period'.

The 'playing for some time' rewards would be closer to that definition, achieveable by all over the long run and its a better business model. With a progressive award system like SWG's (as Asna points out) then the Vets who have been here from the start will always have the privaledge of getting the new rewards before (in most cases, a long time before) everyone else. It can be achieved by total subscription time (SoE should have records from at least when they took over) but I agree that anyone banned should be penalised, not have their total time reset, but reduced by some appropriate amount of time. It may be something small but anything to discourage bannable actions should be encouraged imo.

Asna, the ideas you have are wonderful... apart from that sound effect or musical tone, especially if it's anything like the ding you get everytime a Sati Ninja appears, thats just annoying! SMILEY

hehehe, I was thinking more about a little musical element, something cinematic that says "Someone cool just got here." But yeah I can see how that could become annoying in a place like Mara where a lot of lvl 50s come out of that hardline during pvp. But everywhere else in the game, I think it might be neat SMILEY

As for banned people, I say they forfeit all claims to veteran rewards. You have to really EARN your ban in this game, people get away with a lot of shenanigans before they get hit with the ban hammer. You know how lightly the CCRs tread when it comes to that. I say they are instantly disqualified from future vet rewards past the point of their ban. That in itself might serve as a disincentive for being a jerk.

Hee, I'd be happy to see us get a hovercraft construct: it could work something like the organization area keys, except it could be triggered by a hardline of some sort (maybe a desk phone in a mission-area type set up?).

I've been here since November 2005, aside from having to unsubscribe once due to real life financial trouble, and even then, it was only for a month. And then there was the time my credit card got suspended by my bank out of the blue -- even they couldn't figure out what went wrong -- the very day I had a payment due, and I had to reinstate the account.
