I played the beta back in 2005 and honestly wasn't too thrilled with the game.  Lastnight I watched reloaded and revolutions and decided to give the game another shot and maybe give a shot at RP in this wonderful world that is the Matrix.

so far i'm a little disappointed, yet again.  Maybe i've been spoiled with other games but this game feels empty.  Granted i've only started playing today and i'm only lvl 4 but I'm having a hard time trying to find the "fun" in this game as well as people to possibly RP with.  I'm on the syntax server and read another thread that suggested heading to Tabor (sp?) west for RP.  when I got there was 2 people.  I ran around almost the entire city and after about 30+min i found maybe 5-10 people.  is this common?  Is there any decent RP on here?

also what's the best way to level? missions or just grind random mobs.  so far I've only got one mission contact, is this the norm at my level? The thing is I want to like this game, I want to see what everyone else sees in it that makes them love it, i'm just having a hard time.

any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.  thanks.

Well, I don't really see that much RP.  I play on recursion and I know for the most part there, most of the RP it seems like gets done at Camon C.  As far as the mission contacts go, you will have 1 for a while until you complete the intro missions, and then Gray and Flood will contact you about joining Mech and Merv.  Most of the people in general hang out at the Mara C hardline.  As I'm writing this right now, there most likely wont be many players on.  Most of the players are on from around 12-8 PM EST.  At least from what I see.  I would agree with you that when you're low the game is not so thrilling but as you progress there are other things to do.

If you're on Recursion, RP is generally at Camon C though it has its times where it's rather vacant, there are other moments when I've seen upwards of 20 or 30 people gathered together there RPing out of the blue - it just matters what players are online, which aren't, and where said players are at the moment. Syntax is Tabor W, I guess, but I haven't been there often enough on my Syntax character to really know or engage. A good number of the factions out there you could join are condusive to RP, and you're likely to run into at least a few other RPers in there. I'm a member of The Trust on Recursion and we're a full-on RP faction, so we have a lot of RP. Past factions I've been a part of, such as The Kings of Never were always supportive of it, and if members were not active RPers, they would throw their hat on and help out or go along with plotlines when they presented themselves. So I'd say the best way to get into RP and get to know people is to join a faction of your choosing. Each server has their own Crew & Faction Recruiting section where different factions describe themselves. Having somebody to talk to on the faction channel is a great plus while you're running missions, too!

But yeah, due to its vastness, it's unlikely that you'll run into a large group of players at a random location somewhere in the city. You might run into one or two running to their own missions, but you're not going to run into a Mara C sized crowd ready to RP out in the wilds.

Grinding missions is probably your best way to advance. They're fairly repetetive, but once a week (usually on thursdays) a new mission which continues the ongoing plot of The Matrix Onlnie is released for each organization. There are also contacts scattered throughout the city who you can talk to who will have a set of subplot driven missions for you to complete for them. And, additionally, the old plot-based missions can be purchased from the organizational archivist vendors in the city, and after completing all three subchapter missions for all three organizations or completing four full-chapter sets for one particular organization, you can earn a reward.

There are also live events which occur on a daily basis during the weekdays (one on one server one day at a time) during which liaisons (click the check mark at the bottom right of your UI in-game and click "World Events" to see who your server's organizational liaisons are) will bring players into contact with characters from the storyline to partake in an operation or something which has a bearing on the evolving story. Liaisons are full-on RP members of the community who represent their particular organizations, and if RP is what you're looking for, the liaisons certainly ought to be able to offer some interesting communications.

Hope that helps.

Hotsposts for Syntax are Uriah SW for newbies, Mara C for general hang out and PvP, Tabor West for RP and parties and Tabor East for coding.

At least i my experience.

It also depends on if theres an LE going on (places will be abandoned) and your living/playing timezone.

As for levelling, never, ever, grind. Grinding is not fun and not nessecary. Theres plenty of things to mix up the monotony of standard missions (which you should never really do after your rep hits 50 anyway). Exile hideouts (dungeons), Archive Missions (strong storyline, bettter xp than standards), Collectors, Exile Contacts, Archives, Quests, theres plenty.
