A curious question for all of the Captains out there with a little idle time on their hands: what Constructs do you use to train new Operatives in your crews? I think it would be intriguing to see how different crews with their differing philosophies train their Redpills to face the dangers of The Matrix.

As a quick example, I will display for you a summary and description of the various Training Constructs used on The Nebuchadnezzar before the coming of The One. Yes, it is classified information kept secret by Zion Command. But Triluminarian Intelligence is resourceful and I believe in the inherent good of sharing information freely that could not possibly cause harm. After all, Morpheus is dead and his ship is destroyed. How would it hurt anyone to explain how trained The One to be as effective an Operative in The Matrix as he was? (( The Constructs will be ones seen in the movie during the training of Neo as well as the ones that are playable in the popular game "Matrix: Path of Neo" ))

The first Construct used on The Nebuchadnezzar was a boring history lesson of sorts. The Captain, Morpheus, explained to the newly Awakened individual what The Matrix was, or what he thought it was, and allowed a glimpse of what the surface of Earth looked like in reality. A simple white space with two chairs and a television set suspended in thin air.

The second Construct demonstrated how dangerous freedom really is. The Captain and the new recruit would walk down a busy street, seemingly from Hampton Green or Morrell. At a certain point in time, a woman in a red dress would distract the Redpill recruit from the Captain's lectures with her appearance and then turn into an Agent. The lesson intended to be learned from this was that a Redpill should always maintain focus on The Matrix and their mission and to be wary of Bluepills.

With these "enlightening" lessons learned, the combat training would begin. After being hard-wired with some martial arts, the trainee would be deposited into a Construct known as the "Temple of The Scorpion". This Construct was inspired, it would seem, by the video game "Mortal Kombat" and the Bruce Lee movie "Enter the Dragon". The recruit would have to sneak through a cavern complex populated by psychopathic martial artist monks to reach a final chamber where he or she would need to defeat the leader of the cloister, a burly fellow wielding a Dragon Claw, in an arena suspended over a pit of magma.

This done with, the next Construct would deal with the use of hand-to-hand weapons like short sticks, long staves, axes, knives and other such vicious weapons. The Construct was obviously inspired by a few Hong Kong martial arts films as well, as the recruit is beset by a nearly unending swarm of "Axe Gang" members- insane Chinese fellows armed with hand axes- in a traditional Chinese bar and restaurant.

The next phase of training would have the recruit learn the use of swords. The first Construct would have the recruit and an experienced member of the crew team up in a duel with a Simulacra Samurai capable of a few unexpected tricks, such as creating mirror images of himself to baffle the recruit. With the Simulacra dealt with, the recruit would "supposedly" be led to an exit and encounter an "accident". They would be moved to another Construct, known as "The House of Origami" and be left alone by the crew. The recruit would have to find a way out of the House on his or her own as they wandered through a bad depiction of a 1940s Japanese Horror movie populated by a Samurai ghost, known as "Origami", and a legion of crazed Kendo students.

The next phase of the training (Yes, there are that many), dealt with the use of firearms and cover. The recruit would find themself in the middle of a gunfight as a gang of "bad guys" storm a restaurant in Chinatown. The recruit would have to use a combination of assault rifles, submachine guns and pistols to overcome the gang and chase down their leader who flees from the recruit across a few neighbourhoods.

With this stage done, the recruit would then need to face a veteran of the crew in The Dojo. A short martial arts match would ensue and it would be then decided if the recruit was ready for deployment into The Matrix as a full Operative. Neo's promise was so great in the beginning, according to our information, that Morpheus himself tested The One in The Dojo. We can only assume that he passed. Some promising few would then be loaded onto a Program known as "The Jump Program". The recruit would then have to hyper-jump from one rooftop to another using the Focus they had learned through the prior Constructs.

...and that would be The Nebuchadnezzar's training Constructs summarized for you all as an example. I will relate to you The Hapsburg's training regime as time permits. I look forward to reading what you have to say on this topic.

Triluminary Training Constructs: The Hapsburg

The initial stage in any new Triluminarian's training, whether they were recruited as a Redpill from another Organization or as a Bluepill Potential, is the vivid explanation of what it is that Triluminary is trying to stop. A Redpill defecting to us will no doubt wonder why we have chosen to side in most matters with The Merovingian over Zion or The Machines. Thus, we have our first Construct: The Holocaust. The realization imparted here will be even more terrifying than the one any of us were faced with when we were freed by Zion or by The Merovingian. Thus, a Captain should take great care in not pushing too far. It has been reported that one or two Potentials have been treated for catatonic schizophrenia after exposure to this Program.

The Holocaust

The Holocaust shows to a new Redpill glimpses of the horrors of the Holocaust perpetrated by the Nazis. However, a brief inspection of the bodies reveals to many of the loved ones that the Redpill knew in his or her Bluepill life. The Captain is then to explain that this is not real but it is real to Exiles. (Exiles and the nature of The Matrix should be explained in The Real, prior to insertion into The Construct.) Once the Redpill is made to understand how The Machines and Zion daily enact genocide against innocent Exiles with an equal right to life daily, the Redpill should then be shown scenes of the Second Holocaust (the massacres of Machines perpetrated by Humanity shortly before The War That Scorched The Skies). The Captain should then stress that history has been a pattern of Cause and Effect. The Cause being hatred for others, spawned from jealousy and fear, and the Effect... is what they have seen in the Construct.

 The Church

The Church will then begin the combat training and the increased understanding of The Matrix that every Triluminarian should possess. The Church is a partially destroyed Church in the middle of a town square. The general atmosphere of this simulation is that it is in the middle of the Second World War, in a town in Belgium or Holland, but the actual layout and geography will be replicated from Mara Congregational Church and the surrounding area.

The Triluminarian recruit will find himself or herself standing the tower of The Church with a commanding view of the surrounding area. Despite the ancient look and style of The Construct, the recruit will be armed with "modern weapons"- an assault rifle and a pistol of their choice. The mission that the Triluminarian is faced with is to defend the tower of The Church from an approaching force of Nazi soldiers. The Triluminarian will learn through this mission the tactical advantages of holding a commanding position over a battlefield, to tap into the deeper emotions evoked in The Holocaust to enhance their prowess in combat, that perserverance, even against overwhelming odds, wins victory, and that, in the end, violence and war are pointless.

 The Chateau

This Construct will contain some copies of the main halls of The Chateau. Here, an Operative will put to use the martial arts and hand-to-hand weapons skills they have learned through the hard-wiring downloads they have endured. They will be, once again, beset by overwhelming numbers of enemies- this time they will take the form of Zionite Operatives. The Triluminarian will need to fight off the enemies and prevent the enemy from escaping to find, and perhaps kill, The Merovingian. Of course, there is no real danger presented to The Merovingian in this Construct but it is important that the Operative believe that there is for them to grow properly from the experience in this Construct.

The Field

The Triluminarian will now have experience in fighting enemies with most of the weapons they will come across during their time in The Matrix. However, Triluminary is not about fighting. The Operative will be loaded into a Program where they will find themself in the back of a Black Hawk Helicopter from the 21st Century, en route to a secret location during the night. Here, a "Drill Sergeant" Simulacrum will teach the Triluminarian about how they can put their skills to use in ways other than engaging in outright violence. The wise words of Sun Tzu must be emphasized to the Redpill: "Defeating an enemy in a hundred battles is not victory. Defeating an enemy without having to mobilize the military is the greatest victory for the general."

The Redpill will then be taught about stealth and escape-and-evasion tactics as well as receive some explanations of the sniper training that has been dowloaded to their brain prior to the loading of The Field. Once the recruit seems prepared and motivated for the next phase of their training, the Simulacrum will explain the exercise they are about to engage in. The Triluminarian will be placed down by the helicopter in a forested field a safe distance away from an enemy encampment. The recruit will then have 30 minutes to find their way to their extraction point on the other side of the enemy camp. However, in order to pass the test, the recruit must not only evade detection and avoid combat with the enemy, but also make a detailed map of the assets and personnel and their locations in the camp before being extracted.

The Simulacrum should offer positive reinforcement appropriate to the recruit's degree of success upon completion of the exercise. The Simulacrum should also leave the Triluminarian with the following lesson in mind: "Information is ammunition."

 The Slums

Despite what one might think from this name, it does not involve sending the new recruit into Richland in Mega City before the successful completion of their training. The Slums are a depiction of the slums on the outskirts of Mexico City in 2016, during the UN nation-building operation there when the country of Mexico became a failed state. The Triluminarian will be teamed up with three full members of his crew to carry out a recon patrol of a neighbourhood where insurgent activity has been reported.

Before being sent into this Construct, the recruit should be hard-wired with the packages on Urban Warfare training and squad-based tactics that have become the trademark of a Triluminarian Operation. Also, the Triluminarian recruit should be taught by the Captain in The Real what the importance of teamwork and selflessness is to the success of a mission and the survival of all Triluminarians.

With the recruit fully prepared and the three assisting crew member readied, the group will be placed into the Construct. The patterns and tactics used by the simulated insurgents should vary somewhat, to prevent the Construct from being ruined by the veteran crew members. Also, the new recruit should be placed in charge of the squad during the simulated battle. It will force the new Triluminarian to put all of the skills and lessons he or she has learned over the past while to use, as well as demonstrating to them the weight and responsibility that comes with being in charge of combat operations in the field.

This will conclude the Triluminarian's training and leave them ready for deployment into The Matrix. Once the Triluminarian has become familiar with the different combat roles in a Triluminarian Peacekeeping Force, they might be placed into Constructs to learn the skills specific to the trade they wish to specialize in. Some of you have asked me why we don't have an "inductionary fight" or some such in our training, like the ones found on The Nebuchadnezzar when Morpheus fought with Neo. There is a simple answer to this question: Triluminarians do not fight Triluminarians. It does not matter if Operative A can beat Operative B in a stand-up fight. What is important is that they are able to serve as equally efficient cogs in the peacekeeping squad. Friendly competition is fine, but when it comes to blows, even simulated ones, things become out of hand.

You may relay any questions you have about the implementation, conduct, application, or conception of The Hapsburg's training regime through your appropriate chain of command.

Excellent post. While I haven't thought out every bit of my hovercraft's (The Guardian) roleplaying assets, I did touch bases with on training construct in a NR post I made regarding one of my crew members becoming a Cypherite and leaving my crew. The construct was as follows:

THE GRAVEYARD
A totally simulated setting of the showdown scene featured in the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. The environment consists of a circular cobblestone-covered clearing in the middle of a giant graveyard of the Civil War. This is used to test the reflexes and focus of crew members who jack into it via quick-draw duels against a Simulacrum or another Operative jacked in. Supports up to twelve Operatives on-ship or using a broadcast signal while jacked in.

((Hmm..sounds familiar Sykin -wink- As for the Wyrd, we use a variety of very specialized scenarios that are quite different than your normal construct. We have just one template that we can "paint" on with almost any situation you can think of. This is especially useful for training and practicing planned operations, mainly because we can test out every problem that could occur. However, we also use a few pre set constructs that include:

Firing Range V1: A firing range that is set indoors, and made for small arms.
Firing Range V2: An outdoor range that is best for sniper practice and long range weaponry, including projectile missiles.
"The Gym": Consists of a "gym" similar in design to a Dojo where operatives can train in hand to hand combat with the tools and ability to use any form of combat, from boxing to karate to arm wrestling.
"The Mainframe": This consists of a room (programmable) that can be programmed to have any type of computer hardware for operatives to practice computer hacking skills within the Matrix. Scenarios can be set up with time limits and any type of "defense" imaginable.
"The Gauntlet": If you have played the training for the original counter-strike then you know what I'm talking about. This is just a general intro to the skills needed to survive in the Matrix, complete with weapons training for Machine and Merovingian tactics/weapons.
"The Lab": Due to RP issues, this one can't be discussed. Use your imagination.

Anyway, thats what we work with...excellent topic btw.))

Interesting look at things, I have yet to join or aquire a HvCft, but I will definitely look into this when I do. I was just wondering if the information on the Nebuchadnezzar constructs came from the game Path of Neo, or whether you aquired them from another source.

The information I acquired on The Nebuachnezzar did indeed come from my experiences playing Path of Neo. That source is indispensable in imparting greater detail on what exactly goes on in The Matrix and out of it.

Anyone else care to tell us about their Hovercraft's Training Constructs? Or are you too embarrassed about the level of training your Operative's receive?

I do have a few ideas for constructs, but unfortunately Zion command has decreed I need another crewmember to be allowed to take it out- despite it having been designed for a minimal crew. So unfortunately my baby's in drydock untill I can convince my bluepill friend to join me. An operator from my HvrBrg has agreed to operate for me once she's flying and we have been cooking up some constructs in our spare time- a lot of them are for further training for myself- but we'll have some ready for any new crew.
