So is there anyone on here thats not levelling or has levelled characters on the other servers?

Vector is slowing dying, i think many of us know it, perhaps i just miss the busy times being a brit...but i dont know. I'm refusing to level another character on the other servers, and am aware this means i miss out on a lot of fun. But as messed up as it can get, i love the community on vector, i think all the players that play it are good people and i think them for continuing to make the game fun for me.

I prefer Vector to Recursion too as it has a more real environment. If you take out all the people on the other servers that just stand there and take up space while doing nothing i would think the populations are perhaps still closer than you think but i agree that we need to bring in some new people.

I know some of us are participating in the Recursion olympics then just doing the normal devote most of our time to vector and spare time on other servers...

One problem though is that people get burnt out or look to meet new people, i know i enjoyed making a lot of friends on syntax and vector.

Yeh I'm leveling on Syntax but I don't like missions, especially when your only level 15 :'(

After a couple of years of the same crowd, most will naturally get the urge to spread their proverbial wings and scan the horizon for something new.  Having said that, the main cause of our depleted population has been those who have completely turned their backs on the server.  Many have fled to Recursion, and only log-on to Vector when there's an event.

Another factor is the attitude of a significant percentage of the server.  New players go to Syntax or Recursion and see people from all org's stood around conversing, at multiple hard-lines.  There may be some idle trash going on, but it's mostly everyday chat.  New player 'Bob' comes to Vector to find themselves in the middle of a torrent of abusive 'poppycock', and bad attitudes towards newcomers.  Almost anything, anyone does on Vector makes you a 'noob', or incites faux-gangsta (yo) trash.  I'm not saying they don't have that on other servers, we just house the more rabid of the wolf-pack.  'Bob' comes back to Mara the next day to give it another shot, and finds it empty.  Bob thinks "Screw this" to himself and either migrates to another server, or worse yet leaves the game altogether.  (Scenario three, which I witnessed, involved 'Bob' asking someone idling in Mara for something to be coded for him, resulting in him promptly being told to **** off)

Things we can do to increase the population are fairly simple to execute.  Whether they work or not is another matter, but here are a few simple things which give it a chance:

- When you stumble across a new player, tuck your e-peen in and ask them if they need help rather than hitting them with "Yo level up, son, 'GG'"

- Along the same lines, don't leave your new recruits hanging after giving them the "We 'pwn' so hard, everyone's scared of us, you should join"  Make sure they have the tools they need to help themselves.  I find it amazing that no faction on any server offers levelling/aid with clothes etc.  It's always a mission here and there instead.  Fifties have better things to do, but if you're part of a faction, it's only right that you do what you can.  Personally, I believe new players should get themselves to perhaps level 10 to experience the city/combat system etc.  Then the faction should take over and get that player to 25, and Hyper Speed.  Then there's no excuse for the recruit not to roll their sleeves up and hammer out some missions, with occasional help from their factionmates.

- Trimming the fat off of the plump, glistening leg of spam.  Half of the threads on Vector are born of boredom/anger/hunger/cos they just 'pwned' someone so liek hard that they had to show everyone, and predominantly consist of pointless, formless single words or makeshift emoticons.  You pay your money so write whatever you like, but at some point a potential Vectorian will read it and see it for the waste of time it is, and attribute that impression to Vector as a whole.

I stayed on Enumerator back in the day because I stumbled across a few people who went out their way to help me out.  As long as we give a new player an experience we'd expect for ourselves, our numbers will surely increase.

I actually think the servers been more active lately. I'll be levelling on the other servers when I've finished getting all of my characters here to 50 though.

Ex gives us the best examples of how we SHOULD act.

But to answer the op's original post:

I recently started leveling on Syntax and am near level 17. But trust me, it isn't much better. Vector is still home. The majority of Vector's population left to Recursion, for differing reasons. I won't hold it against them. It's really Epsilon's fault for killing everyone repeatedly and taking away the fun. Everyone /ccr Epsilon. :p

I have a lvl 7 or 8 on recursion. I dont feel like lvling him and all that meeting new people and stuff. Im stayin on vector..

And i think too many people went to recursion.. Maybe because all the people? How about the recursion chars come to vector. Easier for us.. SMILEY

i went to recursion for one reason. cuz thats where my faction went. i even stayed on vector almost bymyself for a while. but *CENSORED*. everytime i visited recursion faction chat was alive. there were always crowds of people at mara, camon, tabor, siakung and other hardlines. i experienced a few events within a few weeks. the pvp was bigger, and in ways better than vector. basically..i wasnt just bored..in sneak..waiting for someone to either kill..or zerg me.

i love vector in the old days. and if i thought my mere presence could bring that back id be there in a snap. but the truth is people that give recursion a chance. prob wont come back to vector. i went to the club hel party and although i enjoyed seeing some old friends over all the experience was...well, pathetic. 2 years ago at the first party there was a mob of zion tryin to crash the party. it was a challenge to just get in. zion waited in the elevator to snipe/stab/flick boogers at anybody within range. the same for the second party with just a bit less reds. last night...nothing. notta. zilch. no reds to fight. such a dissappointment. and when the merv showed up to the party all 25 mervs crowded around him and i just had to shed a tear. no lag. on recursion the place would have been packed.

i love the idea of vector. i really do. but the average gamer dosent. so the average gamer, who isnt really really competetive, will go to a non hostile server. im very competitive. but i cant be if theres no competition. and when you log in to a dead mara 80% of the time that pretty much sucks.

i know that some people will say " why leave vector. thats only making you part of the problem instead of the solution" but sometimes the problem is just too big for us. we dont have control of the marketing aspect of the game. its up to soe to get this game out to the public and attract new players. if they did that maybe some of the ideas that ex put out could work. i dont really have gamer friends. anybody i think might even be remotley interested i try to get them to try it. thats about all i can do to help increase population on any server.

i really miss vector and all the players. madbent, war4blade, oranos, illface, renzouken, tytanya, manitiklunitik, smoke, krytical, skoal(if he still plays)xmagx, and so many others i cant remember right now. but the fun, competitive, trashtalk filled fun that was once vector is not just a mere memory over shadowed by the emptiness that it once was. i still visit once in a while. but usually only to be dissappointed.

LOL, I was at the Club Hel party the whole time as an alt. Talked to you too. I thought it was bad form to have a Zerg interfere with the party, so I discouraged it. You actually wanted a Zerg?
