If fact no we couldn't do this it would be mightly unfair to anyone who didn't already have their character(s) copied over.

The info duping is a side effect of the copy process. The only real way to prevent this would be to make sure your info didn't transfer to the Test World. And then players would be forced to grind cash for testing. While grinding is valuable testing in certain cases it is rather tedious and we would want player's to focus on the testing we would need done not grinding missions to make cash.

Seeing as how money was given away to players to help them max out for proper testing, is it safe to assume it was item duping that was more of a problem?

And if it was, would it be possible to only copy a character and not their inventory but put in enough money to fully max out a lvl 50 with all abilities and a bit extra to recode clothes?

and why not open it back up and give a daily system message that shows the key things in need of work or bugs in need of reproduction?

and, true, there may not be any new content, you may not have a confidentiality plan for releasing criticals ( to keep spoilers to min), and there may not even be anything you think is worth testing....all right all right, i just miss QA

Well, considering that the /copychar wasn't even an option at all for the old Beta QA server, I think it's enough already that some people have their characters on it. As long as you make an announcement giving people one last chance to copy their characters, I doubt anyone would complain too strongly about it. I think it's worse to shut it down completely :smileysad:

The problem is again that issues need to be resolved before it will ever be reopenned again.

I have a strange sense of "Deja Vu". The old 'Lith QA went down due to "something that needed fixing before it could ever be opened to players again." and now this one has too. Please don't tell me this is just the stock cookie cutter line for, "We took the QA server down because we don't think it's worth keeping open at this time." Because if that is the reason for taking it down, then just tell us as such. Honesty is far better than little "somethings" suddenly making things vanish with no proper explanation.

Possible Solutions:
1) Extend the copying period of time.  Make it 1 month, unless a CSR waives that time for the player (in cases of errors and other mishaps).  Also, make it so that you only can have one character on the EP at a time.  Such that people can't give money to their alts, copy them, and have their alts give out money.

It may not completely resolve the situation, but it would be a pain to work on playing a character in something like CR2, for a month, and have to lose all the modifications just because you were trying to dupe money on the EP

2) Perhaps add a flag to a characters (HasTransferred).  If the character has been transferred to EP at least once, it will no longer transfer with info.

3) Wipe EP, copy the current live user DB over to EP, and make transfers in the future, not give money.  If possible, during the process, giving all the faction bank money to the faction leader.

4) Make players copy over with no money, and when they arrive, give them a starter info $ (I.E, when a player arrives on test, they automatically have 5 million info, whether they had more, or less, on live servers).

Probably not the best ideas, but just some ideas I came up with given the problems.

Just wanted to derail this before it goes too far - the QA server is not down because of any issues with duping anything. There are some fairly serious technical issues with copying characters over and we really can't reopen the server until we get those issues taken care of, whether we fix the problem or disable copying of characters like Stack was saying.

I'm personally hoping that we do get it taken care of relatively soon, as there will be a couple of things coming down the pipe that would be great to test on there. SMILEY

I think it's fun just to see and meet people from the other servers, oh ya, and the whole "testing" thing SMILEY
