I'm currently away at a military academy, and as it turns out - I'm able to troll the forums no problem in my free time (which is a lot more than I would've expected). Unfortunately, I am unable to log onto MxO/Paypal/etc. They have some sort of preventative measure which sends me to the school's website whenever I try. To be honest, it's not THAT much of a concern - but I'd like the option to be available. Any ideas? I've tried a few proxies and they haven't seem to work thusfar.

I'd ask other places, but they're all blocked too.

lemme see if I fully understand the situation.

Your using the campus network?
It doesn't allow The MxO client to connect?
and it doesn't allow you to connect to the Paypal website?

Unless you change the rules of the main firewall of the campus and / or the program that blocks the websites, gonna be difficult :S

Any idea what filtration system they're using? Websense, Resnet, Sentian, etc?

If you're at a military academy (i.e. the Naval Academy or Air Force Academy) I'd assume it's probably not a good idea to *edit* with Uncle Sam's network security.

There is a proxy server on the network. The only real way around it is to tunnel out of the firewall and give your NIC a fixed DNS server lookp that is external to the network.

Chances are they know what they're doing and have just locked it all down so that a port that isn't specifically mapped will jut forward the service to the block-page host.

You might be able to use fixed routes for non-port 80 services but it's a lot of work for getting expelled.
