Awakening – Prologue

Think back to the beginning…

“Every time the dream is the same. I’m standing in the middle of a plaza. I’m wearing a suit. I speak, quite a lot, though I can only remember one phrase: It is purpose that drives us! After that there’s just a blur. But the dream carries on. I’m once again in a suit, but this time I’m standing in the middle of a white corridor. I’m surrounded by many men in suits. Once again I can only remember one phrase: The best part about being me…Is there’s so many of me! The dream then changes once again. This time I’m standing on a road. It’s raining. This time I’m surrounded by thousands of men in suits. Then I wake up. So tell me…what’s wrong with me?” Scott was sitting on a chair across from another man, who was scribbling notes down on a piece of paper.
Dr. Wall replied “It is hard to say. Have you had any problems in real life lately?”
“Aside from this world doesn’t seem real to me anymore? Not really. Works just as dull as always. I’ve been tired” Scott explained.
“Doesn’t seem real? Please explain.” The Doctor seemed worried at Scott’s last comment.
“I can’t explain. It’s like I’ll look out of the window and what I see outside doesn’t seem real. It’s like I’m watching a TV show. The world seems so false!”
“Well it sounds to me like you’re strongly against commercialism.” The Doctor chuckled. Scott managed a laugh too although it was faked. “As for your dream…You said work is dull. Perhaps the suits are your subconscious’ way of saying every day is the same. And for the sleep, I’ll prescribe you some sleeping pills. Nothing too strong. Just a little help. I’ll see you same time next week.
“Okay Doctor. Thanks for the help.” They shook hands, and Scott left.

He walked out of the building and walked down the street. He needed to go to the subway, to get back to his home in the slums. Midian wasn’t exactly an ideal home, but it was all he could afford. He would much prefer to live somewhere like this. Historic District had an old feel about it but it was very scenic. He was approaching the subway when to his right he saw a man being chased into an alleyway. Scott would usually ignore this but curiosity had gotten hold of him. He ran to the alleyway to see what was going on, and to see if he could help. The man who was being chased had stopped now and was surrounded by the three who had followed him. The man was wearing a trench coat, and a bandana. The other three were members of the local gang. They called themselves the “Vipers” or the “Adders” or something equally stupid that Scott couldn’t be bothered to think of. “Hey! Leave him alone!” Scott shouted rather daringly. However, it appeared the man in the trench coat needed no help at all. He landed a kick to the face of one of them, who went flying into a wall. It sounded like his neck broke on impact. Scott gasped as the man ran up a wall, and then landed a kick to one of the other two gang members. This one seemed to have also snapped the neck. Then finally the trenched man delivered a flurry of punches to the body of the last gang member, at a speed so fast Scott could not even see the fists. A moment later, he was the only man standing. “How did you…You killed those men!”
“Did he really?” a voice from behind Scott replied. Scott turned to face a rather odd looking man. He had purple hair, a nose ring, and strange tattoos on his face. It was quite ironic that he was wearing a black suit. Just like the one in Scott’s dream. Scott turned back around to face the man who had killed those other three men, but he had disappeared.
“Where did he go?! And who…who are you?! Of course he killed those men! I saw it with my own eyes!” Scott was angry at this man. How could he ask such a question when Scott had just seen the evidence for himself. The man had murdered, though not totally unprovoked, those three gang members, and now he had disappeared. Probably on the run.
The man smiled at Scott. He held out his hand. “That man slipped away while you weren’t looking. The names Sonaro by the way.”

No the last part was in the story Rebirth where he was shown as being in a coma. This story takes place before that when he's a bluepill. Btw heres part 2:

Awakening - Part 2

“Sonaro? Interesting name. Mine’s Scott. Now explain what you mean…I saw him kill them with my own eyes!” Scott was facing Sonaro, looking at him suspiciously, and a little angry.

“Come on! You don’t believe any of this is real do you? You said it yourself.” Sonaro smiled as he spoke, as though this was some kind of game.

“How could you have heard that?! You were eavesdropping on my appointment!” Scott’s fists clenched and he threw a punch towards Sonaro’s face. To his surprise Sonaro dodged the fist with extreme ease. He then laughed at him.

“Please…I’m trying to help you. Trying to reveal the truth of the world to you. Trying to hit me was a bad idea don’t you think?”

“Help me how?! I’m obviously crazy.”

“Crazy? Or is it everyone else who is living a lie? Ever thought of that?!”

“On 2nd thoughts…You’re crazy! Now stay away from me!” Scott walked past him and out of the alleyway.

I thought crazy people only came out at night. Scott sighed, as he entered his house. It wasn’t much. It was habitable, but Scott wasn’t too rich.  He worked for some mediocre computer company. He hated the boring routine. He missed partying and socializing the way he had a year before. Though only 18, he had become too busy working for anything. And then the dreams came. It was the same one every time. Some days he wouldn’t even sleep. It wasn’t that the dreams were particularly scary, but they were so realistic. Sometimes they seemed more realistic than this life. Tonight he was tired. The events of earlier had messed with his mind and now he really needed sleep.

Half an hour later he had got into bed and had started to drift into a deep sleep. It is purpose that drives us! It had begun again; He was standing there in a suit, just the same as before. But something was different this time. He was now standing in a club, dressed in the suit still. There was a man looking at him. The same man who he had followed into the alleyway earlier. The one who had effortlessly killed those other men. He was mouthing something, but Scott couldn’t tell what it was. Infact he couldn’t hear anything, and his vision was blurry. Then his hearing came back. There was screaming, and gunfire. The man was shouting four words at Scott repeatedly: The Matrix has you!!!

Scott awoke with a shudder. That was the first time the dream had been different. He uttered under his breath “What is the Matrix?” He decided he would talk about it to his Psychiatrist in a week, but would put it to the back of his mind for now. He got up, and dressed, and went downstairs. After making breakfast he turned on his TV to watch the morning news. He couldn’t believe it when the first story came on:

“Last night tragedy struck, when an insane man, stormed into Club Duality in Kedemoth while it was full of people, and took out half of the crowd with a gun. Those who survived it described the man as extremely disgruntled. He had red hair, but was covering his face with a bandana. As he shot people he shouted “None of you are real! I’m bringing you all to life!” The murderer wasn’t caught. In the aftermath of his violence he somehow managed to escape and he hasn’t been apprehended. Everybody should be careful when on the streets, and if they see anything suspicious they should report it. There were ten people killed, and six injured.”

Scott’s forehead began to sweat. “It couldn’t be! Just a coincidence!!! Yeah! That’s all it is!” He got up and stormed out of the room, into the washing room. When he saw his clothes he collapsed. They were covered in blood.

Finally. Here it is. The end to Awakening. I hope to start the next part in the chronicles of Oranos (currently called Convert) soon. I welcome all opinions aslong as they are given respectfully. I have no problem with constructive criticism, aslong as that is what it is: constructive. I hope people enjoy this.

Awakening – Part 3

Scott picked up the phone and dialed in the numbers. “Hello?” said Dr. Wall.

“It’s me! Mr. Edwards! I need to speak to you! It’s urgent!” He sounded frantic.

“Hmmm. Calm down. I’ll see you soon but tell me what’s wrong first. It will help. You sound scared out of your wits.” The doctor sounded concerned but fairly calm.

“I…I…I think I killed some people” Scott gasped. It sounded so stupid, but there wasn’t really any other way to say it.

“What do you mean? You think? Are these your dreams again?” Scott was sure he could hear the Dr. speaking to someone else quietly over the line. Maybe he was just being paranoid.

“Yes…and no. I dreamed…and the news…Blood stained clothes!...Please help me! I’m going insane!” Scott was starting to shout.

“I’ll be right there. Just stay in your house, and whatever you do don’t leave.” The line went dead. Scott sat down and stared at the ceiling; his mind racing.

                                                           *****

“He must be stopped. His mind is corrupted.” The voice came from a man in a crisp suit and tie. He was wearing sunglasses, and an earpiece.

“Yes. Hopefully he will do what I have said and stay where he is.” Dr. Wall had just put the phone down and was now resuming his conversation with Agent Harris.

“You have done well Dr. Wall. A successful upgrade on the last program that was needed for your job. Watching these “Special cases” is an important necessity to keep stability in the Matrix.”

“Yes. We had best leave. He sounded frantic. Human beings are rarely rational, especially in these cases.” The men left the room swiftly.

                                                           *****

Scott watched out of the window as the car pulled up. Something was not right. As Scott saw the man wearing the suit get out of the car with Dr. Wall he realized he needed to run. They’re coming to take me away. No! I haven’t done anything! It wasn’t me…it can’t have been! He ran out of the back door. As he climbed over his fence into a nearby alley he heard a cold voice shout “There is no escape! Give up!” He wouldn’t. He ran down the alley.

                                                           *****

“He’s running. You were right it would appear Dr. Wall. Humans are never rational. He shall not be able to run very far.” He ran towards the alley that Scott was currently running down.

                                                           *****

As Scott neared the alley he saw the man in the suit at the end of it. How did he get there so quickly? Before Scott even had time to stop the man was pulling out a handgun. He’s going to kill me?! “Wh...Why are you going to kill me? I…I surrender!”

“No Mr. Edwards. The risk is too dangerous. You have already murdered blue pills.”

“Bl...Bluepills? What are you talking about?!” Scott started to step backwards. There was no way to go, but that was not going to stop him from trying to escape. However, he never needed to do so. Before the suit got a chance to reply several things happened all at once. Far too many for Scott to make sense of. 5 Men seemed to appear out of the sky and land in-between him and the suit. They were clad in trench coats and strange attire just like the man he had seen the other day.

“Broomfondle, get him to safety. We’ll hold off the Agent!” the man closest to the suit said. Scott assumed he was the leader.

“Mr. Brend, stay out of this. You know nothing of the situation.” The suit started to point his gun at Scott’s forehead.

“We’re allowed to free people Agent! You machines know that. Don’t go against the truce. We’re leaving with him!” The man, Mr. Brend, stood in between Scott and the suit.

“Step out of the way Mr. Brend or I will have to take action against you!” At that moment Mr. Brend ran at the suit and sent a kick to his face. Scott never saw if the kick contacted because at that moment he was pulled down the alley by one of the others; the one they called Broomfondle.

“Wh...Who are you people?!” Scott asked feebly. He had seen too much and he felt like he was slipping out of consciousness.

“We’ll explain soon. For now let’s get you to safety!” At the other end of the alley a car pulled out. The others got inside and Broomfondle motioned Scott to do the same. He complied.

                                                          *****

As the car started to drive the driver began to speak. “Operator says the Agent killed Ibis. Ibis told him he couldn’t even land a punch. At least the distraction worked. Luckily the extraction point isn’t far from here.”

“De...Dead? Because of me? I’m sor…” Scott never finished the sentence. He faded from consciousness.

                                                           *****

Scott opened his eyes. Before they were even opened fully he needed to close them. Everything was so bright. Bright and blurry. He could hear people around him. “He’s awake!”

“Wh...Where am I?!” Scott’s whole body felt like it was in pain. What had happened to him?

“Just relax. Your body is being used for the first time. Your eyes will begin to work properly soon, but for now you should just try and sit calmly.” The voice he heard sounded like that of the man who had fought the suit, but how was that possible? They said he had died…

“But…”

“Just relax! We’ll explain everything soon. It will be a lot to take in. But for now, welcome to the Real World.”

Thanks for the positive responses. I really appreciate them. Apost1e you should check out my 1st rp story - Rebirth which takes place later than Awakening (I started it when I deleted Oranos the first time and it was a reason why and then from that I created a whole Oranos background which I'm now beginning to write up with this). I'm hoping to start Convert tomorrow.

Good job Oranos, not as dark as Rebirth... you went down into the 9th circle on that one.

This one, I actually laughed... poor guy in the middle of all that... must be what all those poor folks feel when we land out of the sky and PvP and such lol

btw... Broomfondle... sounds kinda dirty :smileysurprised:

Yay a reply. You just became like my most favourite person ever XD

Yeah it's not supposed to be as dark as Rebirth, you'll understand soon.

Yeah Broomfondle...I don't like to use real chars so I decided to use the mission names and Broomfondle is one of the funniest i could remember so I figured i'd randomly use that one as a little joke to the people who laugh everytime they see "Kill Broomfondle"

I could but well for 1: I'm trying to keep the story centered on me (egocentric blablabla but its a story about this character). I'll mention factionmates etc though. and 2: I don't want to mention other people's characters because if any of them want to RP about their char in the future I wouldn't wanna portray them in a way they wouldn't like. I don't want to get their chars wrong etc etc.
