Hello-

After almost three weeks I can finally post.  Yah!  (Thanks to phi and the TSR's in resolving my issue.  I still however have no where to save a Sig.  I assume that I am supposed to be able to do that in 'my profile' somewhere, but I have no such option.  Can I get a little help?

Thanks.

Hello Cryptonomicon,

It should be listed as Signature, directly under Biography, on the My Profile page.

Hi DavidK,

I figured it would be there, however it is not.  Right after Biography the Preferences tab starts, with just some yes/no questions.  Right after that is the Persona Management section.  Again, I have no place to input a signature or an avatar.

Could you please help me?  If you need a screenshot please let me know.  Otherwise feel free to log into the account if you need to.

Thanks.

Sounds more like a forum rank issue then.

Could be that you now need to be registered on the forums for a certain period of time to be allowed to use a signature.

Yup it's a forum rank thing.

Hmm, that is mildly irritating.  Do you happen to know how long this period is?  I registered on the forums September 30, so you think I would be able to have a signature as I'm paying for the game.

There are some serious problems with these forums at the moment due to the worst test and implimentation plan I have ever been witness to. Basically they're a work in progress and were being abused by some people who think it better to destroy something they don't like, instead of just leaving. hence all these restrictions on new members.

Post messages, contribute to the community you will get these things bestowed upon you... Of course it's just a picture SMILEY

"...due to the worst test and implimentation plan..."

They had a plan? I thought they did this on a drunken whim!

Well, I wonder what these people did to warrant such changes.  I have read a bit on it here and there, but I must not have the whole story.  At any rate, I had thought that those players were abusing the 'Free Trial' mechanism.  Since I am a paying customer, I had assumed that the problems I am having were technical mishaps, not enforced doctrines.  Even so, it would be nice to have official word on waiting periods (if that is indeed my problem) somewhere.  It seems rather silly though to make someone wait two weeks to be able to post, and some quantity longer to have Signature privilages.  I mean, how likely is it that someone is going to pay for the game and pay for a monthly fee just to spam and get banned right away.  Not very likely in my opinion.  As I said before, I am still mildly irritated that I have to earn the right to have a Signature/Avatar.

I do greatly appreciate the help and comments I've received here though!

And you're right phi, it is just a picture  Its just that knowing that something is not working properly magnifies its effect to me, and makes constantly want to fix it.

I don't know the answer off the top of my head, but I am trying to find someone who does.  Thanks for your patience.

The problem is that they weren't using a free trial account, they were making accounts via the "Join Free" link at the top of the forum. The forum rank/grouping system didn't work correctly (and may still not) and was granting posting rights to the accounts that were made at the lowest rank.

Unfortunately even for new subscribers of the game they start in the lowest rank. This rank had to have its posting rights revoked to stop mass spam and other such nonsense which is best forgotten anyhow. To fix that, the lowest group was set to no-posting rights. The higher groups each have restrictions too. Your group isn't allowed a signature (in case you post p0rn or sommat as one), some groups weren't allowed the edit function either (not sure if you have that or not without rechecking to see if you edited a post), and others no avatar and so forth.

The system is supposed to automatically move you to the next rank once whatever criteria are met, but the system was (and possibly is still) broken. Instead of increasing ranks, it detected the lowest rank you were valid for, and stuck you in that. It seems to be taking a very long time to fix it, but it is being fixed.

The people to talk to about this are Walrus and the Web Development team.

Thanks for your assistance!

And Chuui, thank you for your thorough explanation.  I suppose it does make some degree of sense, but you would think that all new users would at least have full access to one sub-forum, more specifically this Technical Support forum.  I appreciate the fact that it is probably nice to not have have forums clouded with the questions of novices, but many new players do have legitimate questions that need to be asked.

At any rate I think I understand the process now.  It would still be nice if 'Walrus' or the Dev. team could post the logistics somewhere however.

It's not a case of n00b questions, but rather there were certain notorious persons abusing the forums with a great many messages that breached forums rules and were aimed at disrupting the community. (revealing leaked storyline info, abusing staff and players, that sort of thing)

Yeah it's not a problem of "silly" questions from new players. Those are most welcomed here, on Redpill Rescue and on the general forum! It really is down to a techincal problem (coding of ranks and associated groups) that is at fault here. It will *hopefully* be fixed, allowing for subscribed accounts to be moved to the second level/group that looks the same as the lowest level/group (they share the same rank name) but have different posting rights. But that code still doesn't appear to be working correctly.

I do believe that people asked Walrus before to post the requirements and abilities of each rank before, but he declined to do so.

So far,  the only players allowed to have avatars are the ones who have been on these forums (Joined date) for at least a full year.

As for your current sig situation, it's odd.

For now, remember, you can always insert a sig as an image in your posts. I hope that it all works itself out soon.
