((I don't see where anyone has claimed as of late that the Oracle has some kind of mystical power or that she is somehow beyond the control of the universe. Only that she had her own motives thanks to her programing (which Cervacius kindly showed an example of as well as her "To unbalance it" quote) about how things should go. Her ability to predict the future is explained by the Architect in that she is a intuitive program created to study the human psyche. Thus she was able to determine the outcome of events and plan on how to turn them in her favor which is exactly what she did in the case of Smith. She saw the problem and took a gamble on how to fix it manipulating people into the places they needed to be.

And again, what was it that made Smith malfunction? You say its chance but doesn't that go against your own argument about there being nothing mystical or without reason when it comes to code? Smith wasn't above causality was he so what was the cause that created his effect?))

And I have my own theories on "the one" being a program and not a person at all, "the anomaly" which Neo was *is* a person (as explained by the architect), ("the one" being a way to force "the anomaly" to feel obligated  to return to the source; being as we now know that programs can enter the human mind) The program our two wire frame friends are looking for pretty much tell me  Ive been on the right track in that sense.   The Oracle told Neo to return to the source, in fact I think she told him he must or zion would fall. She was manipulating him towards "the ones" function not against it.  Smith is not a human nor is there any proof that she had anything to do with his malfunction, mere speculation without proof. In fact I think smith said he disobeyed because he couldn't contemplate his deletion, or that something  over wrote his code that came from neo. He also talks about taking his "purpose" from him.  (which gets back to my little idea about  our wire framed friends but thats another thread.) Its hard to determine what everything that happened  in the movies truly meant there are 3 or 4 (Wachoskies and to a lesser extent Chadwick and Rarebit) people who really know the plan for this place but time and again they have shown us that no one in the universe is innocent or "good"" width="15" height="15" />)

The Oracle points Neo towards the source and tells him that's where he must go, yes. But she never says that if he doesn't then Zion would fall. In fact the condition is that he must decided if Trinity lives or dies and that choice will result in Zion's salvation or destruction. So yes she does send Neo to do what he was supposed to do but she gives him with a little extra push. She sends Neo to the source but not to save the world but to make a choice about Trinity which then could save Zion.

And I bring Smith up because you mentioned that we have him to thank for the break in the chain, which is true we do and he is just as much responsible for ending the cycle as Neo and the Oracle were. Just with Neo we know who was pulling and pushing him into place and we know why the Oracle did what she did. Smith however remains unaccounted for and is still left unknown.
