Pretty good analogy. The game was definatley marketed 1 way (that way failed for several beurocratic reasons) and now we have a shadow of what that game was.
I would really rather have what we have now than have no MxO. But I think I am about done with these types of discussions. I can't imagine the regulars of these thread maintaining their tolerance for much longer either.
I don't pay so I can make my own content. It's like going to Burger King, buying a Whopper, and then having to make it yourself. No thanks. If I want my own content, I'll play an actual tabletop RPG, where the players are all within striking distance.

Remind me not to sit near you at a Burger King RPG.

And furthermore:
Economics 101:Money is exchanged for goods and services. In a marketplace, if Vendor A is selling poor services for too high a price; where Vendors B though Z are selling appropriare services for a reasonable and fair price; it is fair to ask Vendor A how he justifies his fee when the services are far substandard to all the other vendors in the marketplace. If he doesn't give a good justification, then it should not be unexpected if Vendor A goes out of business. We are asking Vendor A to justify his fee. Nothing wrong with that. If he can't justify it, he should lower it, at the very least.

Vindicator's and Femme Fatale's can still post if they are not subscribed... or so the rumor goes.

Ah...well then, I retract my previous statement, so...yea...
I had thought this was the case but my unsubscribed Femme Fatale account begs to differ.
Special ranks do sometimes slip past other conditions preventing regular accounts from posting however.

Personally... I think MxO has gone from being an MMORPG where we were spoon-fed the storyline, to something like a tabletop RPG with a 3D chat room. We have a set of rules about this universe, we have NPCs we can write stories involving. We have different character templates and organizations to work from. We just need to put our geek thinking-caps on and make a little more effort to create the story.
Agreed. However there will always be whiners who believe their $15/mo. entitles them to whatever they want. Hopefully SOE learned their lesson with SWG. Perfect example of what happens when you try to satisfy insatiates. The next generation of MMO's are going to include the dimension of story (The Old Republic). SWG has added the storyteller tools and CoH is allowing players to create their own missions. MxO already has plenty of elements for players to create their own events, projects and stories. I wouldn't be surprised if we are able to create our own missions in the future. This is the direction MMO's are moving in.

Hey, I'd love to get mission tools, and for us to create our own missions, but in order for us to do that...we need Devs....
