I prefer to say, If you make the educated decision, to join our closeknit network of love and freedom, you can live your life how you see fit.

Depends on how you define "bind", I suppose. I like to think of it like the bind-ing of a book: without it, you just have a pile of easily disarranged pages, but with it, you have a useful and easy to carry compendium of information.
