Are the names of districts and neighbourhoods made up or are they supposed to be called what they are? I don't know but I don't think any of them were ever mentioned in the films. I did recently watch the 3 movies again and they do mention names of hardlines but none of them match the ones in game. Its not a problem but it would be nice to be by a hardline and think main characters like morpheus were here.

The names of the Hardlines in the Movies were named after Chacago streats, not the actual names.

The Slums Neghborhoods come from words in the Bible such as Moria and Magog

The Barrens Neghborhoods come from names of Serial Killers or Famous People of Genocide.

Internationals Neghborhoods come from names of real Asian Cities such as Sai Kung and Ueno.

And while I dont have a true lock on Downtown, I think they are generic
city sections like Vauxion, Chelsea, Edgewater, and stuff like that.

Now if they can just add more districs and constructs in the near future... :robothappy:

There's been no word on new districts, but according to Andy Kaplan there will be new constructs and the older ones will be given some updates.  But this won't happen for some time.  And I doubt new districts will be in the game anytime soon, either.

As far as I remember, they never named the hardlines.  Just gave a street address for their general location.  The Heart O' The City hardline wasn't called "the Heart O' The City hardline" in the movie, Tank simply said "Wabash and Lake", which is the street address for it.

Is there a website that names each district and what it means?

There's a list on Wikipedia of Biblical names, which includes most of
the Richland neighborhoods. You can also just do a search on Wikipedia
for "serial killers" and find a few names, including Bathory, Gunness,
Sobrhaj, Toppen (old old name for Southard), Lopez (old name for
Lucero), Gacy, and a few others, IIRC.

it's really neat seeing the
real world connection with matrix things. it makes me wonder why devs
chose to name things the way they did. i'd ask it in that ask-the-dev
thread but i've got bigger fish to fry lol.

They also changed names. For example, I believe Southard used to be Topps.

Most of the places in downtown are from NYC, like Chelsea, which is in New York, INdustry square is like times square, Center Park is like central park.... etc...

Some are in the surrounding area of NYC like other boroughs besides Manhattan and NJ.
