New to Roleplay?...not?...I have been RPing for more than a decade and would be glad to answer any questions you all might have about Roleplaying in the MMO.  I am also holding RP classes on the Syntax Server beginning in the next couple of weeks so if you wish to attend create a character and attend.

Shoot!

What's your stance on "preaching"?

This is a complicated subject.  I tend to think that you are an RP leader, say for a faction or you are respected character, you can tend to get away with preaching more than others and probably have a right, because of your position.  Otherwise, preaching is very one sided and not conducive to interactive storytelling...which is what RP is suppose to be.  If you have a something to say that might take a while, generally a good way to go about it is to break it up into segments and allow people to respond after each of these segments with questions or comments and you can decide to continue what you were trying to say or pause to answer questions or reply to others.  In the end, nobody wants to sit and listen to one person go on and on about something without being able to voice their own character's concerns or thoughts...so preaching is not recommended.

What’s your opinion on rping  a religious character? Specifically on how Christianity etc could have just been part of the simulation?

That would be a very interesting character.  I would recommend that if you wanted to create a character like this that you do your research into the Matrix backstories, comics etc...Their are religious leaders in Zion so RPing one of these characters as a redpill can be done and you have several churches around the MegaCity to hold your sermons.

As far as your second question, that would take some thought on my end to answer adequately.  All I could tell you from an RP standpoint is whatever direction you decide to take with it, make sure you stay true to your character's beliefs and avoid flipflopping, or changing your character's beliefs depending on whatever situation he/she is in.

Which *cough* in-chat [blink] emotes -sneeze- do you +sniff+ prefer?

Depends on my character to be totally honest...with Anubias I mainly use ::ahem:: but he has also been known to ::sniff::...especially when investigating, oddly enough ::laughs::...::ahem::...never thought of that before.  With my other characters, ::blinks:: is popular as is some other emotes I have personally created for....::ahem::....well I have said enough.

Not only do I prefer this certain style, but I prefer using this certain grammar within the style.

*blink* "..."

*cough* "..."

*sigh* "..."

"..." *glance around* "..."

"......" *dark grin* "......"

I think you get the idea of my in-chat emotes. I don't really like going *coughs and looks at Anubias* or *takes out a flask of vodka*, except when I really really have to, to make a point.

*takes out flask of vodka*

Ah, here's one that really caught my attention once. Using the name floating above one's head or right clicking for details to find that person handle/bluepill name. Should we ignore that and act all ignorant until the person introduces themselves, or find an RP way to explain our knowledgable ways? I tried doing a thing where "My Operator dug up the info on you" deal, and that kinda worked, but I just wanted an opinion from someone else.

I mainly try to stick to ignorance of the person's identity until we are properly introduced.  Sometimes people skip this part of RP and somehow mysteriously know your name, when this happens I will usually just introduce myself to the person to get over that hurdle quickly and move on.  I have also used the "operator" trick that you mentioned above and I think it is a feasible option...your operator knows alot and I dont think its a stretch at all considering how much help Morpheus and Trinity got from Link and Tank in the movies.  Operators can find out alot of things for you or explain things that are going on in the Matrix that your RSI cant necessarily "see".

How do you join the Role Play, and what requirements are there?  So far what I've seen isn't like any other Role Play system I've seen...and I've seen alot.

First, you should choose Syntax to create your character, then visit Tabor West and watch how roleplay is done here in MxO.  Frankly, this question leads to lots of other questions and can best be answered by talking to you ingame.  I am going to add you to my buddy list and give ya a shout when i see ya.

Do RPs ever combine in-game action with forum writing?  Like a story in the forum with sections that are played out in the matrix.  Screenshots posted on the forum to show the in-game events and then continued writing etc...like a kind of picture story book.

I wouldn't mind writing a little introduction story for my character then playing out some missions in the matrix.  Part scripted story / part improv.
