Sony just keeps stumbling lately. Ow.

"In the past week, four
major
camera
makers
have quietly published service advisories admitting their digital cameras are
dying. In each case, the flaw appears to involve Sony CCD sensors using epoxy
packaging that eventually lets in moisture. Sony's own cameras are among those
affected, and the company also has dozens of affected camcorder models. Sony is
believed to be picking
up the tab for the repairs
for the other camera makers as well, regardless
of warranty status. (If true, a laudable approach.) Given the large numbers of
cameras that are potentially involved, this can't be good news for Sony, who apparently
already is expecting
losses
, and who has also recently announced major
layoffs.

The Online part of Sony is doing fine.  That's all that really matters to me.

If you don't see the point take some time to think about it.

And yes Sony is broken into a few chunks, but all those chunks are
still Sony. They'll still sell off anything losing money to save
themselves.

But really, what is the point of this topic? What are you aiming at? Informing us in case we have affected cameras? There's no need. The companies we bought them from will do that themselves, as will the shops. So, is this relevant to the MXO game? No, that technology isn't used in the game, so there's nothing we need to do in that respect. So, is this bashing Sony? I guess. But the question is why? They, like pretty much any other company out there, don't care if you don't like them or not. You still give them your money. So why the topic bashing a company on their message boards that you pay *them* to post on? It makes zero sense.

*Awaits the moving of this topic to the SOE board*

I don't consider it a bash at all. I'm just spreading information to the adults that might read here.

If you don't keep up with the news I guess it doesn't make as much
sense. I don't hate Sony at all, they never sold me a bad product.

I just pasted that news article because the company now developing this
game appears to be trying to cut it's losses, and just got hit with
another. I don't know..I find it relevent.

Sorry.

This information is almost as relevant for MxO as the weather in Burkina Faso. Thanks for sharing....

Oh, yet another "OMG teh sky is falling!!!11" thread.

Seriously, unless we see a press release concerning Sony Online Entertainment then everyone needs to - bluntly - *CENSORED*.

Sony is a MASSIVE corporation, and each segment is huge in itself. How
you manage to get from "Sony make dodgy cameras" to "Oh no they're
gonna sell the rights to SOE games" is beyond me.

Ford USA are reknowned for terrible build quality and generally mediocre and crappy cars from what I can make out.

Ford USA sold the Jaguar Formula 1 racing team to cut costs.

Yet our family buys brilliantly built cars from Ford Europe that are a joy to drive and in no way suffer from cost cutting.

Same company, but the parts do not affect one another.

But here's the thing. They are not the same company. They share one word in their name. That is pretty much where the day to day business relation stops. All it means is that one or other of Sony's trading companies bought it. But they are pretty much not managed by the same boards, thus not always bound by the same practices. What happens at Sony is often different to what happens at SOA and again is different to that of SOE which in turn differs to that of SCE... They are all companies within the "Sony" umbrella, but that are run by different people and via different aims. What happens in the tech section has no bearing on the software section. And FYI, it's not just Sony that are having trouble with digital cameras. Pretty much *all* electronical companies that have sections working on digital camera's are having losses with those sections. I'd cite you a link, but (a) I don't remember the exact date of the report by NHK and (b) it's in Japanese and online translators just don't cut it and I'm too busy to translate it myself.

Indeed. You're wasting your time - some of these responders are the type that'll spin MxO being at $18 a copy as good news.

Indeed. You're wasting your time - some of these responders are the type that'll spin MxO being at $18 a copy as good news.

Well, by all means cite one concrete example where the adverse conditions of one piece of electronical items (such as a faulty conponent in a digital camera) caused a large multinational organisation to sell of its online gaming section (being run in a different company) as a direct result of the conditions in the electronical items. Until you can, then they have zero relation to one another.

From the business point of view, selling the game at $18 dollars from a drop of $50 is bad - only for those who want to make a large profit from one sale. But for those who realise that selling the initial product for cheaper to gain a wider playerbase - all of whom are paying a monthly fee (thus with more people buying the cheaper game, more people are paying the fee making more money in the long term) - selling the game cheaper is good news. It all depends on how *you* want to view things. Are looking at the long term picture (ie, 2 to 10 years) or the short term one (typically 6 to 12 months)?

Of course, single player games usually can only afford the short term idea, sell as many as you can for as much as you can, as come tomorrow the next best thing will be out. But for an online game, the market is different - of course for that, you need to keep people actively interested in the game.

If MXO fails, it won't be due to a digital camera. It's going to be because we are not getting the content we *desperately* need. So Sony can have all the bad news you want them to have, until SOE and more directly MXO's dev team, are getting the bad news, there's no need to start screaming the end of world is nigh. But by all means, scream for the content we need. As if we don't get that ASAP, then this game *will* die.

Congradulations all.  You have shown yet another paying customer this game has too many whiny forum cops.  A simple "This is probably Off-Topic" would have done.  Even Trax's "cough" would've had a little more tact.  Chill out.
