Preface: This FAQ covers the different random spawns you may encounter while mining Data Nodes with the new tools introduced in the Update 53 hotfix. It does not detail the process of data mining or the tools required to do so. There is an excellent guide by Aquatium that explains how the Data Miner tree works. If you aren't familiar with how this new content works, read it here.

Introduction: With the Update 53 hotfix, the Data Miner tree has been given a new use, and offers new content available to all levels, with increasingly valuable rewards that can be obtained as you reach higher levels. Lower level players will often gain $info and experience from nodes, and will sometimes encounter waves of enemies. Defeating these enemies will produce a Data Cluster, which can be looted like any normal container, and usually contains either $info, code bits, code fragments, or an Experience Code Amplifier, which when used will give you an amount of experience equivalent to 10% of the XP needed to reach your next level.

Possible Encounters: Depending on the specific tool you are using, you have a chance of spawning one or more hostile NPCs while tapping a node. The more powerful the tool, the more difficult or numerous these spawns can become.

Basic Tools: These tools include Data Taps, Data Siphons, and the Data Extractor 2.0. All of these tools can be looted from NPCs and containers, and can also be decompiled and crafted.

Advanced Tools: Two tools are available to very high level players, and can only be crafted by someone who has first created the schematics for these tools and learned the recipe for that tool from the schematic. These tools are Data Extractor 3.0, and Data Scrambler 0.4.

Basic Spawns: These spawns have a chance of appearing regardless of which tool you use.
  • Gang Members: Typically Blackwoods or Furies, you will encounter a wave of 3 one-chevron gang members equal to your level, then a wave of 2 two-chevrons equal to your level, then finally a single three-chevron that is two levels above you.
    • Loot: $info, code bits, code fragments, an Experience Code Amplifier, or a Portable Signal Booster.

  • Other Exiles: Like the gang member spawns, you may also spawn several waves of Exiles, usually Lupines or Blood Drinkers. They work much like the gang member spawns in which you will get several waves of enemies of increasing difficulty.
    • Loot: $info, code bits, code fragments, an Experience Code Amplifier, or a Portable Signal Booster.

  • Security Programs: Usually spawns Tactical Security guards. Works similarly to the previous two spawns.
    • Loot: $info, code bits, code fragments, an Experience Code Amplifier, or a Portable Signal Booster.

  • Low-Level Data Sentries: Spawns about a dozen Data Sentries or Data Simulacrum that are several levels below the player's level. They usually do very little damage and are easy to solo. They usually come in one single wave.
    • Loot: $info, code bits, code fragments, an Experience Code Amplifier, or a Portable Signal Booster.
Unique Spawns: These more difficult encounters appear when you are using the higher level tools, and happen more often when you are in a higher level neighborhood, often when tapping nodes appropriate for your level. The "Requires" part means you need at least the tool of that level to have a chance of spawning that encounter. Higher level tools also work in their place.
  • Data Sentries: These Data Sentries start off as a manageable group of three to five, but an additional one usually spawns after one is killed. The final wave pits you against a Data Sentry that is usually three levels above yours.
    • Requires: Data Extractor 2.0
    • Loot: Data Extraction Permission Set. This is used to code the schematic for the Data Extractor 3.0.

  • Pandora's Box Spawns: Waves of enemies from either the first or second Pandora's Box arc will spawn in the same fashion they do when normally summoned. Soloable by a high-level player.
    • Requires: Data Extractor 2.0
    • Loot: $info, code bits, code fragments, an Experience Code Amplifier, or a Portable Signal Booster.

  • N30 AG3NTs: These pale Agents somewhat resembling Neo arrive in waves of three. Can be soloed by a skilled player. Two or more redpills makes this trivial.
    • Requires: Data Extractor 3.0
    • Loot: Quicksilver luggable. The luggable will flag you for PvP, so be mindful of nearby hostiles when you attempt to loot it. The luggable will give you several passive bonuses, but its true use is in the recipes it contains. Right-click the Quicksilver in your inventory and select Use. You will receive:
      • Recipes for Quicksilver Gloves (male and female)
      • Recipe for Quicksilver Pill
      • Quicksilver Fragment x2

  • Zero One Taskmasters: Two Zero One Taskmasters will appear. After defeating them, you will face about five Zero One Soldiers, and then two more Taskmasters and about five Soldiers. Definitely not soloable. You will need several people to beat them.
    • Requires: Data Extractor 3.0
    • Loot: Recipes for IS Regen Pill and Inhaler. (Unconfirmed)

  • Tengu and Gargoyle: A level 60 Tengu and Gargoyle, as well as about a half dozen level 55 exiles spawn. Absolutely un-soloable. Takes about a dozen people to clear before the timer expires.
    • Requires: Data Extractor 3.0
    • Loot: Overdrive luggable. This luggable will flag you for PvP and provides passive bonuses. Use it to receive:
      • Recipes for Overdrive Bandanna (male and female)
      • Recipe for Overdrive Injector
      • Overdrive Fragment x2

  • Wasteland Corrupter: Spawns a level 100 Wasteland Corrupter and several Corrupteds about 3 levels higher than the player. The Corrupters require Insecticide to kill, and a lot of it.
    • Requires: Any tap. (Thanks LoTekGhost)
    • Loot: None? (Possibly bugged.)

  • Corrupted: Spawns two Corrupted, usually one or two levels below the player.
    • Requires: Data Extractor 2.0(?)
    • Loot: None. (Except for possible Corrupted Code Fragments from the Corrupted themselves.)

  • Agents: Either two level 55 Agents, or one level 65 Agent.
    • Requires: Data Extractor 3.0
    • Loot: Data Scrambling Permission Set (from the 2x 55 Agents, used to code the Data Scrambler 0.4 Schematics), or Data Scrambler Security Key (from the level 65 Agent, used to craft Data Scrambler 0.4s after the schematic has been learned). (Thanks Aquatium & Croesus!)

  • Level 100 Agent: One level 100 Agent. Obviously difficult.
    • Requires: Data Extractor 3.0
    • Loot: Overdrive, Optimization, or Quicksilver luggables.

  • Level 255 Agent: Spawns and just falls over dead.
    • Requires: Data Extractor 0.4?
    • Loot: Whatever $info the Agent had in his pocket.
Data Clusters: In addition to the random chance of spawning enemies, you also have a chance of uncovering a Data Cluster simply by tapping nodes. Depending on which tool you use, the Data Cluster usually contains code bits or code fragments. When using the Data Extractor 0.4, Data Clusters can contain one of each type of red fragment appropriate to the node's level (i.e. a Data Cluster discovered from a high-level Data Node can contain one of each type of Subroutine fragment).

If anything new is discovered or anything in this list is incorrect, please post here and I will correct it. Once I get screenshots working on Vista I'll post pics of the different items too. SMILEY

Hope you find it helpful!

Formated for emphasis.

I had a faction mate (level 32) using a Data Siphon 3.0 I believe that spawned a Wasteland Corrupter in Edgewater.  Now I'm not sure if its just that any/some of the above spawns have a random chance of spawning using any of the new taps or if it's just isolated to that particular spawn.  Just thought I'd toss that in there.

I love it though, great resource!  Thanks Symmetric!  SMILEY

*Edit: Also, the level-100 Agent with no details that spawns with node-tapping (our faction has been using data scrambler 0.4's) drops a random set of things.  So far, my faction has received an Overdrive set and an Optimization set (what the TM spawn drops) from this spawn.

You forgot the lvl 100 Agent Spawn. Drops any of the high lvl spawns items (quicksilver, overdrive, ect)

Also missing the corrupted spawn (not the WC) spawns 2 corrupted one lvl 49 one 50 (for me). No data cluster at the end but the spawns drop the same as they do comeing off of a WC. Requires a Data Extractor 2.0 (maybe less not sure)

That is confirmed. You may need to kill that spawn 2 times, because you will either get the recipe or the frags. Also from what I recall it was:

Spawn 1: 2x lvl 60 Taskmasters - Spawn 2: 4 x 01 Soldiers lvl 50 - Spawn 3: 4 lvl 50 01 soldiers and 2x lvl 60 Taskmasters.

  • Agents: Either two level 55 Agents, or one level 60 Agent.
    • Requires: Data Extractor 3.0
    • Loot: Data Scrambler 0.4 Schematics, or Data Scrambler Permission Set (used to craft Data Scrambler 0.4s after the schematic has been learned).

The 2 x lvl 55 Agents drop the frag to be able to code the recipe for 0.4 Scrambler.
The other solo agent is lvl 65, this drops the frag to code the 0.4 Scrambler itself.

Nice work Sym. Just to add I have had everything spawn on me using the 0.4 Scrambler, we have had about 6 FH using it and everything has spawned at some point for us.

Thanks Aquatium!

As for the "Requires" part, I should mention that that is the minimum tool requirement. It doesn't imply that only the tool listed will generate the spawn. I'll clarify that in the OP.

I still don't think this accurately describes what Aquatium said.

Aquatium states that;
The 2 x lvl 55 Agents drop the frag to be able to code the recipe for 0.4 Scrambler.
(This frag is the Data Scrambling Permission Set)

The other solo agent is lvl 65, this drops the frag to code the 0.4 Scrambler itself.
(This is the security key frag that allows you to code the 0.4 Scrambler after learning the Schematic)

As far as I'm aware, they don't drop the schematics, everyone at lvl 50 tool maker should have the schematics already available. If I'm wrong I apologise, but this is how I understand the process

Just a quick update on the N30 Agents. Had only One wave of 3 Level 51 triple Chevron's or I think 3 Level 50 Triple Chevrons (( what ever level is yellow to a level 50 for a NPC )) and after thewave was done had the QuickSilver Glove recipe *both genders* and some quicksilver pill of some sort it looks like. Im told right now the pill raises defense which Lucious Brujah and Personlll say. But im going to code one up in a bit and see what it really  does.

EDIT: Just got in before the servers went down to confirm that yes it raises defense. its sorta the opposite of the smith rage pill somewhat.

Image of its coded self and charges of how many below. Also it compiles for 20K Info in the load area but 21,600 Info at a signal booster using the compiler tool. and is a difficulty of 55 compile to compile at a booster or so.

Yep, the loot tables for the N30 AG3NTS are always a Quicksilver luggable, which when used teaches you the recipes for the Quicksilver Gloves and the Quicksilver Pill. It also gives you two Quicksilver Fragments.

EDIT: Also, sorry for taking so long getting screenshots up. Unfortunately Vista and MxO don't get along and all I'm getting are black screens.

I and others killed a Corrupter, but got no cluster out of it. I feel robbed.

Is it just there to be annoying while you're tapping nodes? To have the potential to ruin gatherings?

It needs to drop something, or go away.
