I won't even begin to describe the Vista issues I've encountered outside of MXO...but I can confirm that I've been running SP1 for 3 weeks with no real change to MXO's appearance or performance. A video upgrade fixed most of my Dali-esque problems, though. The rest is neither better nor worse.
Hey moderator: would it be too off-topic if we created a new forum called "Vista Tips" (not to be confused with "issues"? It might be a good place for us to compare notes on performance tweaks, without flooding this discussion on the face shadowing/texturing/etc. problems...
Ok it appear Service Pack 1 has or is causeing more issue for myself & I am sure others below is a list of old & new problems
1 - Upon Loging in when you are typing in the username & password instead of getting keyclicks as you type its continuosly doing so even after you have finished entering in you detials to log in
2 - I cant play the MXO cinematics when I upload myself to a hardline even when updateing to latest Macromedia flashplayer
3 - When i get killed (EVERYTIME) I get dumped back to desktop after hitting reconstruct then I cant log back in because character is still in use - (NEW)
4 - On 2 occasions upon going to a HL the screen is just black and stays black but things are still clickable you have to ALT+TAB out then back in for it to sort itself - (NEW)
5 - People still appearing fuzzy & dotted like is still there but not as much
(please patch these problems or at least give us a update as to how you are progressing towards fixing them)
Hrm...
1) has been explained pretty well here:

and here:

2) Cinematics stopped working for me a long time ago (in XP), and I've never bothered to try again to see if they work. If someone says I should check one out, I Google for it. :-/
3) I've only just started to get dumped to desktop in Vista. However, the character still in use is a different issue, usually from trying to get back in before the system realizes you left (it still thinks you're there for a few minutes because--I'm guessing--it can't update every user's status 100% in realtime)
4) The video layer going black is an ongoing problem--including the Alt-Tab bit--already posted here
5) As is this one
As far as I can tell, none of these specifically relates to Vista SP1. Some (like #5) are Vista-specific.
...
I will take back my earlier statement: one thing I did notice with SP1 is that now Vista sees all 4GB of my RAM: my mobo supported it, but in the past Vista only saw 2.5 of it...
You lucky devil!
Would you be willing to share your specs? Include whether the machine came with SP1 or if you're running SP1 now?
It'd be much appreciated. Thanks!

Unless one of the bigger brains around here (Phi?) suggests it, you don't have to do that AFAIC.
I'm more curious about the guts and the OS: Your RAM, Video, if it's Vista SP1 (and if so, if it came shipped like that to you, or you put SP1 on yourself)....that kind of thing.
Whatever you wish to post, knock yourself out! I'm looking forward to seeing what you've got (and comparing notes)
That is impressive, Havocide: a Duo at 1.5 GHz running Vista pretty well. I blame that hefty cache of yours--that was a good pick.
Phi, I remember those "good old days"--it was pretty awful. I thought I'd add that the last time we had connection drops I noticed that SOE added some sort of reacquire ability in the background: before I'd get dropped, I'd at least thrash through a few "connection reestablished!" messages.
The disconnect bug was a baddie, too: I can remember watching my Buddy List wink on and off as people came and went...
I've been wrangling the crash-to-desktop problem in Vista, and it really does seem to go away when I stop the Prefetch service. I'd half a mind to blame Windows Update/Background Intelligent Transfer exclusively, but it appears I can leave those on and not CTD....so long as Prefetch isn't trying to thrash while I'm gaming.
Have you tired running MxO from a different compatibility mode?
