I just re-subscribed to check the game out. Upon logging in and rechecking my character, i noticed that i had 22 pts under my attributes tab to allocate. But im not sure where they should go, im going down the Karate and Kung Fu trees. Not sure what ill pick yet. This what i have for each attribute so far.

Belief:8, Perception:11, Reason:8, Focus:5, and Vitality:8. 22 points to allocate, what should go where?

If you look on the right side of the attribute thing ingame it tells you what each one gives, you want melee accuracy and damage ones.

 Belief and Focus I think....

Yup, Belief and focus, and anything you have left when you're maxed out you could either share the rest of your points between the others, or put them in Reason (it gives you added viral resistance).

It should be noted that resistance influences given by the attributes (or anything else for that matter) apply the bonus ONLY when you have an active resistance buff of the respective type up and running.  These include the set from the Awakened tree, the one in Aikido, the ones in UM/FM or whichever it is, etc.  Otherwise the resistance bonuses don't have an active effect on your total resistance points.

I just started playing MxO recently and this answers one of the questions I had also. I was looking at a number of Attribute guides and they were all saying that if you want to go melee then you'll need to concentrate on Belief and Perception. They were all from 2005 though.

When I saw the Attribute discriptions in game though, this didn't make sense as Belief added to melee accuracy and resistance and Focus added to melee damage and defense. Perception didn't help melee at all.

So at this stage I plan to have the following by level 50 as a Kung Fu Master -

B - 30

P - 10

R - 10

F - 20

V - 20

I may make Vitality 15 and Focus 25 depending on how I go for Health and IS. The whole lot may change also depending on how Kung Fu goes as it's supposed to be balanced accuracy and damage which may mean I need a better defense but hopefully the higher resistance from Belief will cover that.

Yeah, when CR2 came out the archetype's focuses were changed. My main was MA-stat in CR1 with starting +points to Perception. Now he's usually a MKT because Perception's now useful for MKT/Guns instead. Pretty sure the hover-text on character creation was updated with the correct new designations in terms of what's good for what.

---

The way attributes work is that they grant you percentage bonuses (%). Those "Bonus %" percentages only apply to any actual points you have as a base on your buffer bar. They do not apply to buffs granted by clothing items.

So, because there's no health regen rate abilities in Operative, Vitality won't help your health regen. The most significant effect upon Health Regen by Vitality is Fast Healing/Fast Healing 2.0. A 30-Vit specced Patcher can give out 90% Health Regen FH2.0s. The same goes for IS regen. Only a few abilities grant IS regen, like the Network Attacker title buff. None in Operative do, so again Vit is worthless here for you.

As far as resistance goes, the same. Resistances from your clothing are not improved by attributes. Once you're level 50, you should be able to achieve 200/200/200/90 combinations of resistances or 180/180/180/140 or so, with the right set of gear. (At level 50, resistance goes up to 240 without a toughness boost, yet "plateaus" at 200. Special attacks will do the same damage to you if you have 200, 201, or 240 resistance. The only benefit of resistance over 200 is that it does continue to help against free fire attacks, and if you get Sky-High Sidekicked or Insiduous Code-ed, the extra resistance will act as a padding and you'll maybe still be close to 200). Where attributes DO help resistance is buffs that give resistance on your buffer: the 4 awakened abilities, Empty Mind, Consistent Technique, Calm Mind/Calm Body, and Adrenaline Booster, as well as certain title buffs and the patcher buffs Viral Shielding/Network Firewall 1 and 2.

If you use these awakened abilities often, the resistance attributes are worthwhile, otherwise, not.

Personally, I prefer to avoid being hit rather than being hit and taking somewhat lesser damage. You're kind of gimped in damage-dealing terms with only 20 Focus, also. So, the following is a pretty standard setup for MA PVP(or PVE, too):

30 in Focus and Belief. The remaining however many points depending on your archetype distributed into Reason for thrown defense if you fight a lot of Master Knife Throwers, or Perception if you fight a lot of gunners.

That isn't to say your setup doesn't work. I haven't tried it, and if it's been fine so far, great. It doesn't matter *THAT* much at lower levels, and I don't know what level you are currently... 23? If you find that how you put your points in while you level is to your disliking, simply goto your org's Archivist Vendor and buy a Stat Hack ticket to run a mission that grants you a Attribute Restat tool.

OK, thanks. I stuffed up a little on those stats anyway. I gave one more point than you actually get.

If I make Belief and Focus 30 that will leave me with 8 points for the rest. I took True Believer at the start for a B 11 and R 5.

I might try -

B - 30

P - 10

R - 10

F - 25

V - 14

to start with and if things need a change around I'll get a Stat Hack and do the quest to change them. For some reason I'd like all stats to be at least 10. I also like the Idea of the Max Health and Max IS bonus that the V gives. I'll have to chcek it all out though and experiment a bit I guess.

I'm currently only lvl 15 so I have a looong way to go yet. SMILEY
