I will be doing a bit of testing to verify this today.

The driver has seemed to help substantially.  However, I still have the useropts.cfg file that you asked us to create before.  Let us know if it is okay to remove it.

If you want to really test this on your system, simply put '##' in front of the 4 lines and test your performance. This will comment out the lines. You will need to start your client with these changes saved as this doesn't update dynamically.

So comment out the lines and restart/start your client to test the performance of your specific setup.

This morning testing looks promising.

Just downloading this now. I'll give it a test, I'm using an Nvidia Geforce 9800 GTX.

After applying it to my laptop's 8600M GT  (forced install (no biggie really) since dell changes hardware IDs), moving my useropts out of the MxO folder, and running around in some of the known lagging buildings, I have to agree this.

Massive improvement in the building east of Tabor W, and I saw...75% improvement in the two buildings west of the Tabor W hardline.

Also, the building at Stratford Campus (the place were Rare showed us when he was testing the modellighting), I don't know if I was limited by my cellular card at the time, but I was getting down to 15-20 fps, where running around in the lobby in circles was giving me less than that before.

They're on the right track.  The lag isn't crippling now....just a minor nuisance on my end.  I'll be able to provide more data Pre and Post FPS's on my 8800GT when I return home.

Whoever figured out the useropt.cfg thing is a genius. Even after updating my 8600GT driver, I still had very bad issues inside buildings. As soon as I created that file, however, it ran smoothly and still does!

Did you remove your old driver first and rebooted before installing the latest driver?

So ... not having one of the affected cards it's hard for me to keep tabs on this.

I've had a look at the drivers and as far as I can tell, there seems to be 3 major changes:
- Occlusion checks have been changed for deprecated methods (presumably it was checking poorly and wasting a lot of GPU time)
- Texture Buffering/ smart fetch has changed significantly (could this be the cause of the indoor object shading issue?)
- recursive or parent-child object nesting has changed for world rotation calculations. (I'm kind of surprised this hasn't had an effect on the vista face shading problem)

I could be totally wrong. It was just a quick look that I had. Can any of the devs confirm these fixes?

and I'm on driver version 177.35-177.41 I haven't had time to test this on XP but I do know that the Texture issue within Vista is still there just so you guys know.

Also, I'm wondering if I will get the same issues once I get my Geforce GTX 280 in on wed.

Texture issue in Vista isn't a nvidia issue though, happens on my ATi 3850 SMILEY

I dont want to derail the conversation here but please keep comments about the Vista/Texture issue in the thread created for it.

ATTENTION

175.19 has been pulled from NVIDIA due to some performance loss compared to May's 175.16

This could explain why DigitalPhreak probably couldn't get it to work, because it wasn't there.

I'm gonna be trying to use the NVIDIA GX268/280 driver with my 8 series cards later tonight.  I hear that the performance of this driver works excellently with my 8 series cards (yes, I'm forcing another driver, yay for unified driver architecture!), and these were released about the same time, so I'll know if indoor lag is there or not.

Been tinkering with my 175.19 mod for laptop install lately, and recently, I've been able to reactivate LCD turning off when the lid is closed (original mod lost that feature since its a weird laptop configuration.  Only tested on my two Dells at the moment).  This and the old is still available via PM (please remember I take no responsibility for things going boom, etc etc etc).  I'm really not sure about this one right now, since I spliced the mobile registry items from the older Dell driver settings into this one, but I don't think it'll be an issue with added registry values.  I'll be stressing it, etc.

178.13 Drivers (sept 25) are good.  No indoor issues.  I move that this post be closed and thread name to reflect that.  Keep it for reference and for the hotfix incase it ever returns SMILEY
