I skipped hideouts while leveling the first time through so I am going back for the experiences and items that I missed. I've been farming dungeons three levels under the boss' level and haven't gotten a top drop yet. How many levels beneath the boss' level should I be for future battles to be near the 100% probability of getting a top drop?

Thanks in advance.

It's not how far down you go, you have to be the same level or so as the boss to get the good drop. If you're a much higher level than the hideout boss, you're not going to get the good gear to drop.

When I say three level level under the boss' level, I meant to say that when a hideout has a lvl 16 boss I start farming the dungeon at lvl 13. Shoudl I start at 5 levels below the boss?

If the boss isn't 5+ levels above your character, I do believe you're not guaranteed to get the highest drop from the boss. If you're under their level slightly, I think there's just a chance you'll get the highest drop from the boss. 9mmfu posted something about it a long time ago, I'll try to find it.

If I remember correctly if you're the same level as the boss you have a 1/25 chance of getting the top drop. 1 level below the boss and you have a 2/25 chance of getting the top drop, 2 levels below the boss and you have a 3/25 chance of getting the top drop and so on and so forth. So at 5 levels below the boss you have a 6/25 chance of getting the top drop.

Here's a link to a nifty post I bookmarked regarding drop rates and character levels by Mr. Bit:

The way those dungeon boss drops work is like this:

You will get one of the three drops. A roll is made from 1 to 25. If your level is equal to the boss' level:

Get the low drop on a roll of 1-16 (or lower)
Get the middle drop on a roll of 17-24
Get the high drop on a roll of 25 (or higher)

For each one level difference between you and the boss, the roll gets modified by one. Ie, if you are one level higher than the boss, the roll gets -1. This means that if you are higher level than the boss, you cannot get the top drop, because the highest you can roll (at one level higher than them) is 24. On the other hand, if you're one level lower, you get +1 to your roll, which doubles your chances of getting the top drop.

I wouldn't say this is the most awesome system in the world, but that's the way it's worked all this time.

Hope that helped!

That helps a lot. I'll see how '/random 25' works with this system, if they match up.
