What advise would you give a level 12 character new to the game?

If I can remember right your doing missions in Westview now, I hated doing missions in westview. One thing I did was do contact missions until I got my lvl up to around 15 and then went over there to do missions. You can look at this list to see where all the contacts are. Hope this helps SMILEY

Missions when you are lvcl 10 to 15 are the most dangerous since they force you to move into Westview, usually Sobra or Southard...and you simply can't handle the mobs yet. The NPCs in the missions themselves scale properly, but that doesn't mean much when you are kicked to death by 5 Legion bruisers in the alley outside the mission.

As was suggested, you can do Neighborhood Contact missions until you top lvl 15.

If you choose to run the standard missions anyway (as I did way back when), the first order of business is to get the Access Keys and Access Nodes for Southard, Sobra Shores and possibly Stamos. Not having to worry about agents will help alot.

You can also use Hyperjump (available as of lvl 10) to go from rooftop to rooftop....if you are quick and clever, you should be able to get to most mission locations in one piece.

You can also use the new feature where Link will tell you the closest HL to your mission location. That way you don;t need to run through so much hostile territory (once you have the area HLs, that is).

Also, remember that if you are killed between mission objectives, you can rez and then go right to the next objective, as long as you finished the goals of the last objective.

Last tip is to do those missions in teams if you can. Drag along some faction mates (preferably of higher lvl then you) or ask around a HL if anyone wants to run some missions. It's a great way to foster faction teamwork, find a faction, or just make new friends.

Good luck, and stay low.

for level 12-17, I bought spy gear and moved to Sai Kung.  the mission areas are very close, and when wearing a disguise mobs wont attack.

I ran into the same problems - just remember that there's always an
alternative route to your destination.  Stick to the main roads,
use the elevated roads when possible.  Get the access cards and be
willing to die in order to hack an area access node - just hyperjump
right to the node and use it while the mobs are shooting you.  If
you can get away afterwards, so much the better...but next time you go
there, you won't really have to worry about agents.  Don't be
afraid to play a little chicken with the oncoming traffic - I was going
everywhere over there by running along the middle of the main roads,
which was just far enough away from the places where the gangs
congregate that they wouldn't go aggro on me.

Finally, trust that it does get a bit easier when you hit 17-18
level...missions in most of the same neighborhoods, only now the mobs
are all blue instead of yellow and orange.

No need to play chicken SMILEY, just turn the settings all the way down.
Unfortunaltely, thats what i have to do anyway, because i think my
computer might implode on itself if i turn them higher.

From level 10-25 or so your missions will spawn in Westview, once you
get past that marker they begin to spawn back in Richland, well that
isn't quite true.  The missions will spawn wherever you go, so if
you want to mission in say downtown, you can just go there and your
mission will be in downtown.  As for getting past this stage of
the game, I suggest the neighboorhood contacts as most have, and also
once you get to level 15 you can enter the Construct Archive Yuki (Best
in the frigging game in my opinion).  The boss will give you a ton
of xp for a single kill and excellent loot drops, the enemies in there
drop pretty good stuff also, just be careful at level 15 because you'll
be really vulnerable.  It is best to get a group together and go
into the construct, that way you have back-up should you need it.

Missions are extra hard at that level, no one is more against power leveling then me but I just had to do it otherwise I woulda been in my Teens forever.  Find a group of higher levels run missions with them and youll level in no time, once you hit 20 you can pretty much solo your criticals again, and when you hit 25 your assassantion missions and delivery missions will spawn at the waypoint your at.  So I suggest getting into a guild.  This game is not very friendly to the Soloer in the beggining and its more of a group/community game, enjoy that aspect and find your self a nice guild.  All the factions have great guilds..I am in Digital Army we are a Merovingian faction on the Vector hostile server if your their. look us up.  http://digitalarmyclan.net  if Merv is not for you their are excellent Factions on every server check the boards.

If you really want to avoid going into Westview then just cancel your mission and ask for it again.  Roughly ten times doing this, you'll be given something more local to you.  Just be careful not to accidentally cancel it again SMILEY

Well, if you don't care for missioning with other people you can also solo some of the missions provided by the local neighborhood contacts.  That way you can stay in areas with neighborhood mobs near your level.

That's
exactly what I did to avoid being sent into Westview for early missions
- cancel and download again. Eventually, you'll get one that's pretty
local. Something else I learned early on was to use the rooftops for
travel rather than running through the streets. If mission enemies
(quite literally) tumble out of the sky and onto you while on a roof,
you can simply hyperjump away. They can't.    :smileywink:

Careful about this kind of advise.  Technically this is an exploit, and it's the kind of thing that caused major controversy a couple months ago.

What I'd really do is if ur level 12, I'd use the opportunity to hit some of the contacts in Richland (like the chessman - near tabor w) for missions, or go hit some of the lower level exile lairs:

Cormorant Casino (1041 x -603)
Zalmon Casino (1064 x -1759)
Bishop Casino (605 x -459)
Eber Casino (501 x 44)

Those are all level 5-10.  What you do is get a lower level to go with you, you cover them if they get into trouble, team with them, and sponge their xp.  It works out well for both of you, plus you get great items.  Another option is go to Uriah Industrial and start taking out gang members.  These are all ways to get your level up without having to go to westview.

Unfortunately, the best exile lair for you is in international.  It's in kaede.  The good news is that the Kaede key card is in Dannah Heights.  Kill the named bullet gang member at 172 x 25 x -1111 (rooftop).  It may take a couple of tries, but that member has the kaede key card.  Kaede can be reached through the subways using the blue line to sai kung and then running (or safer to hyperjump) to the SE to Kaede.  The coordinates of the hideout is 251 x -347.  It's called Orchid Public Baths.  And you'd probably do pretty well to form a party of at least two of you.  A higher level doctor would be wise as well.  But this is the best one for you because it's level 11-16 (most xp per kill).

Hope this helps, and good luck!
