Hi there
I just got the game and installed it, but i've a big trouble with the update.
If the updater just dont hang (I have to restart) after a couple hours I get that message :"Patch system error (result code -2)
Newly-created file failed digest check. Virus infection or disk write error"
File in question is Dialog.pbk (and sometimes sounds_b.pbk.
I have no virus infection and my hard drives is in perfect health (chkdsk in dos mode, scandisk in windows, even a defrag before game installation) unless incompatibility with maxtor sata hd ?
I've checked forum/faq/Live help, nothing helps (no router, disabled firewall, tried half a dozen proxys in europe, delete faulty files, _xxxx folders, no preferences folder).
By the way the guys in Live chat dont give much info.
Last thing i'm gonna do is try to get the digital download and see if I can make this one work.
I'm waiting for an anwser from soe after the mail I've send them.
So if anyone as a suggestion, I would be glad to hear it SMILEY.
I've also tought about geting the file from someone who have the game patched. If someone is hosting a ftp or is willing to send the file with icq or msn, please pm me. Thanks SMILEY.

I've tried the trick that is using proxie but the one posted does not work, and the link who should give more proxies is not valid. I've tried many proxies across europe but it did not change, still error -2 (or error -36 with patcher)

firstly:
it's "vector-hostile.matrixonline.com" not "vector.matrixonline.com"

I am guessing you are running windows 98.
Please post things like your processor make, model and speed, how much ram you have and version of windows.

Secondly as a starting point to get you going, do the following:
  • If you are running windows 2000 or XP make sure you you have local administrator access. (if you don't know how to do this ask and I'll post a specific thread about it)
  • If you are running windows 95 or ME then buy a newer copy of windows
  • If you are running windows 98... I feel sorry for you SMILEY
  • uninstall MxO
  • Delete any remaining install directory ( Do this CAREFULLY as deleting the wrong directory will mean that you may have to reinstall other programs, or you may lose other important information. )
  • Reinstall the game off the CDs
  • make sure that the install directory ( "c:\Program Files\Monolith Productions\The Matrix Online" by default) is not read only.
  • run the patcher and click the "full system check" switch.

OS is Windows 2000 (win 98 is by far more stable than 95 and Me btw).
About the traceroute : just copy pasted ips from the permanent topics.

PROBLEM SOLVED : i have dual boot, I installed the game via digital download on my Win XP partition. All works fine this way (same provider, connection, software firewall etc).
Is it coming from the os ? dunno.

Are there other players who can post their experience running MxO under Windows 2000? What Service pack do you have, and did you need to do anything special to get the game running? I don't have a 2000 box at the moment, so I am unaware of any compatibility issues that may arise from playing under that OS. I would like to hear from those of you who can or cannot get the game to run on it.

The problem IS caused by an OS conflict (Win98 has issues auto configuring network hardware properly - hence the old restart after changing IP address). Just use it under WinXP single boot system.
