Longer answer: The avatar control panel has been deactivated for all users. Only those who set their avatar when the feature was still active, still have one. If people with avatars go to change them, they too, will lose their avatar.
Sadly, this apparently due to the moderators not having the ability to "moderate" inappropriate avatars and the admins apparently, don't have the time to do that task either. So unless the moderators get a function that allows them to remove avatars that break the forum rules, the feature will not be offered again. It is also likely that all users with avatars at present will have them removed. I hope that the coders of these forums actually go with the solution that will please the users more: giving the moderators the abilities that they need to moderate such avatars.
Sad indeed... however one will argue they will do the same with the signatures, etc.
