The clown suit may be a big example, dunno how else to put it, but I tried to illustrate the situation. Fact of the matter is: You act the way you dress. Put a hip-hop dude in a pink ballet-tutu, and he'll be emberassed - maybe that get's the point across? The hiphopper might not show it but generally, no hiphopper would feel comfortable wearing a pink tutu (there are always exceptions. Pink hair, for one). Works the other way around too: A formal suit gives someone confidence. - How ridiculous this sounds, it is a fact. Clothes shouldn't make a difference but they do. People feel comfortable in them, it gives them confidence if they look how they like to look.
Surely your talking about feelings not personality? Put a hiphopper in a tutu and sure, he'll feel embarrassed (I wouldn't wear a tutu) that's not his personality though, that's just a feeling, a part of his personality. The part which tells him he looks silly. By your analogy he should be dancing to swan lake as he's dressed the part.

You are right, in part, feelings contribute to personality but it goes a lot deeper than just your appearance. Clothing may enhance your feelings and moods but your base personality, ie the hiphopper will remain. Now personalities can change over time, but not instantly just by putting on some clothes. A slinky dress may make you feel sexier, but if you're more comfortable in pants, just wearing the dress isn't going to change your mind. You don't necessarily act the way you dress, you just respond differently according to your personality at the time.
