That's the third fine old man in Hollywood who's passed on, in the space of twelve months... So sad...
Which other two? I'm guessing Paul Newman is one, who's the other?
The other would be Charlton Heston: I kind of saw that one coming, but it was still saddening when the news broke...
I don't feel sad when the old Hollywood greats pass away, just grateful to them. I feel as though they've achieved the closest thing to immortality one can get with their body of work.
I only feel genuinely bad when their life's work is cut short and made incomplete, like Heath Ledger or Bernie Mac from this year.
I also am one of the few ppl that like the "In Memoriam" montage during the Academy Awards.

You know thats the ONLY thing I hate about those...the applause...like its a postmortem popularity contest. That's pretty ghoulish. I feel bad for those people who worked behind the scenes yet they don't have the name recogniction, like directors, writers, cinematographers, etc.
Other awards shows don't do that. I don't remember about the Golden Globes (missed it this year) but last year I was flipping through channels and I caught the BAFTA awards, and they had the same thing but out of respect they didn't applaud and waited for the entire montage to end....it was much better.
