It's rather because Mirror's Edge is like a "racing game". You have a "track" with a starting point and an endpoint. In between you can choose more or less where you go, but that is restricted to a "forward" movement, not a "360° run through a whole city" movement (e.g. GTA).
Now that's a good analogy. I'll have to remember it.
The gameplay footage looks amazing. I could see a lot of games following this style of FPS. Could you imagine a Matrix FPS like this complete with bullet time?

Demo is out now for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 version is out tomorow. *currently downloading*
Already mentioned.

Really? All I saw was 'out on 30th and 31st' not 'out now' Just a friendly reminder to people its available now.
So, for those who have tried the demo, how is it?
.. I've got to wait until tomorrow to try it as I only have a 360, but I want to know now lol

Definately too short, 2/3 of the demo is the tutorial for christs sake.
Just finished the demo.. it is pretty short, but it was definitely amazing. I'm not sure how this sort of gameplay will hold up for an entire game (or how long the full game will be), but my excitement for the game has only increased after actually playing it.
If only I didn't suck at it so badly heh It's going to take me a while to get used to 1st person perspective jumping..
You can't really bemoan a demo for being too short; it was free, it was definitely demonstrative of what you can do, and it leaves you wanting more. So much more.
You can probably tell from that, that I have played the demo and I do indeed love it; I'm absolutely looking forward to playing it in a fortnight. In the meantime... I'll play the demo.
Again.

I can and I will when you compare this demo with the demo for say... Bioshock, looking back the demo for Bioshock seemed to be so much longer than Mirrors Edge without giving away too much of the game, which makes me wonder... is Mirrors Edge going to be one of those games which is too short?

Portal was too short (imo), but it's still one of the best games there is.
Honestly, I personally do think this is going to be the case.. at least as far as the Story Mode is concerned. But I'm not sure this is a bad thing as I'm not sure the gameplay in ME is the kind of gameplay that would stay fresh over a long drawn out campaign. It would be great if I was wrong though hehe
What I do see there being a lot of potential for in ME is extra levels, challenge courses and, for those who get hooked on it, the time trials.
So, really, I don't think the comparison to Portal is a bad one at all. Probably a relatively short story mode experience, but with nearly unlimited potential for expansion.

Oh yea I realise about Portal but imo thats how long Portal should have been, any longer and it would have gotten tedious. Mirrors Edge... I dunno...

It depends on the variety of things you can climb/slide/jump on. If they keep adding new elements and maps, moves that go with those with updates/patches, I think the fun can be easily extended.
