... its a FPS... and I didnt go nuts... mainly because of that gameplay trailer, it looks very impressive. Would a FPS parkour game sort of defeat the purpose? What the point of doing all these cool moves if you cant see any of the cool moves " />
E3 Trailer
Got to say this is looking very impressive.
I'll be surprised if this game is actually good. Already had some bad experiences with Namco's Breakdown in 2004, and my fear for Mirror's Edge is that the game will be nearly unplayable like Breakdown.
The difference with Mirror's Edge is that it's pretty much solely about movement. The first-person perspective they're going for has to work. They'll be putting a lot of effort into getting it working. And from the sounds of the hands-on tests so far, they've already achieved that.
I'm looking forward to the game more and more. One of the reasons I first took notice of it was because it reminded me of Flashback on the Amiga. The best part of that game was running and jumping through the levels as quickly and smoothly as possible, and it was all done with very simple controls. Reading GameSpy's hands-on preview, Mirror's Edge seems to be doing the exact same thing (only in 3D and with today's graphics, so it'll be even better):

Just about everything else was context-sensitive and mapped to the L1 and L2 buttons, which, for simplicity's sake, basically correspond to "up" and "down". Need to jump? L1. Vault over a fence? Run + L1. Climb up a ledge? Walk up to it and press L1 again. Even more complicated moves, like jumping off a building and sliding down a wire to another rooftop, happen automatically as long as you jump in the right direction, and by pressing L2 at the end of the wire, Faith kicks into a slide-stop.
