I know its kinda old news, but we are getting much closer to its release. Who else is pretty excited about this? I know I am since its being developed be Bethesda whom really suprised me with Oblivion. The setting is far more apealing as well. Ive never played the original Fallout games, but I got a feeling I will love Fallout 3

I am extremely excited about this game. I loved Oblivion as well (more after installing player made mods). While I never really played the original Fallout games I do love post nuclear apocalyptic scenarios SMILEY

It's NOTHING like Fallout.  It's just a bad post-apocalypse Oblivion mod.

Personally, I'll wait for the MMO.  And Interplay.

You don't need to.  Everything they've described is a total divergence from the original series.  If you'd been a fan, you'd know what I mean.

Having played every fallout game ever released, i am worried about this latest version. It is not going to be the same and i'm not sure it will be an improvement. I will give it a chance though and see what they can do with it.

May i remind people that graphics isn't what makes a game fun. While they may add to atmosphere the story, gameplay and things like that make the game. Most of my favorite games of all time are from the old SNES or S-Genesis days.

Of course if they release a Fallout MMO which i have read rumors on i'll be all over that. Especially if they stay true to the genre and feel of Fallout.

Poor little tribal.....

Well as i said, ive never played the originals. But from the looks of it it was turn based combat, and that doesnt appeal to me at all, however the setting and story did. Now on the other hand Oblivion had GREAT gameplay. It was the 1st RPG ive played in a long time, and it was because someone finally did it in a way that was boring and repdative to me i.e. the turnbased combat. So in my eyes if Bethesda keeps up the quality like they did for Morrowind and Oblivion, this game can ONLY be an improvement.

Tell me whats exactly is it thay they are straying from. I hope its not the graphics becasue if they released a game the looked like it came out of 1998 then I wouldnt touch it.

They're straying in every way; making it "dark" and "gritty", 3d, Not as intellectually-based as it was (Fo1 and 2 had at least 5 literary references apiece), not turn-based (it's like Dirge of Cerberus, iMax.  If you didn't play the original, you just won't get how much it NEEDS to be turn-based), etc.

Fallout: A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game

Set in the aftermath of a world-wide nuclear war, Fallout will challenge you to survive in an unknown and dangerous world. You will take the role of a Vault-dweller, a person who has grown up in a secluded, underground survival Vault. Circumstances arise that force you to go Outside -- to a strange world 80 years after the end of the modern civilization. A world of mutants, radiation, gangs and violence.
Your immediate task is to find a replacement for the broken water purification controller chip. Without that chip, your fellow Vault dwellers are doomed to dehydration or be forced to leave the safety of the Vault for the Outside.

The core of the game revolves around your character. When you start Fallout, you can choose or modify one of three pre-made characters, or create your own from scratch. The character creation system allows you to make a vibrant, unique character. We use a skill-based system to allow you to fine tune your character.
As you gain experience (roughly half from combat, the other half is from solving adventure seeds and non-combat based events), your character will grow as you determine. No classes here!

Combat in Fallout is tactical turn-based. You can take as much time as you need to make decisions. Choose from different types of attacks, with a variety of weapons and attack skills. Weapons include: shotguns, flamers, chain-guns, rocket launchers, sledgehammers, brass knuckles and more.

Release Date: September 30, 1997

That said, I would think that a post nucler war is supposed to be dark and gritty. If your trying to say that the originals had humorus lighter tones to it, who is to say this one wont. So far there have been a handfull of screenies and one teaser trailer that barly showed anything so theres no way you could know what type of 'feel' the entire game will have. And I know for a fact Bethesda hasnt come out and said "Not as intellectually-based as Fallout 1&2"  so where are you getting this information?

No the 3d thing...  w t f?  Like I said if they relased a game that looked like it came out of 1998 I wouldnt touch it, and im pretty sure im not the only one. You think Zelda would still be as popluar as it is if they stuck with a 2d map?  pfft  3d.... pfft

Lack of 3d doesn't mean bad graphics, kthx.  It's called Isometric.  You'll probably enjoy it just fine because you never played the other three.  Ignorance is bliss, after all.

Imax you owe it to yourself to go buy the old games and play them. They are probably dirt cheap and worth every penny. Then tell me when you in your shotgun wedding, acting in porn movies, talking about little tribals being abused, trees growing out of peoples heads, the oldschool style intro's and such that you don't feel all warm and fuzzy.

It's those feelings old school fallout fans are worried about loosing.

And you can in Fallout Tactics i believe turn off the turn based play but you will just die gruesome deaths that much faster.

Anyways i'll give it a try. But i'm still wary of the game. Only time will tell if they get it right.

Oblivion and Morrowind have plenty of moments that give you that warm fuzzy feeling, so I have no reason to belive they would cut that out of this game if thats what made the originals so great. Hell even the teaser trailer gives you a warm fuzzy feeling in the beginning with the little love song playing on the radio,  it just happens to end with a dark tone.

I think the Fallout fans are jumping the gun on thier opinions and need to just wait and see. Oblivion got game of the year for a reason, and from the sound of it the type of game Fallout was in the past is the perfect project for a company like Bethesda.
