I know that, in practice, it's against the copyright... but theoretically, would it be possible to turn MxO into a single player game?In such a single player version, it would be possible to run around the world, with all its (limited) interactive features, doing quests and missions, experiment with useropts. etc. etc. - just without the multiplayer factor (i.e. events, pvp, teaming up etc.)Also no lag anymore I've seen this idea being brought up a few times here, and seeing as how I've always been more of a "single player" in MxO and been a huge victim of server latency (and still am), I'd be very curious if such a thing were POSSIBLE at all - in terms of what's already on the client-side, and what requires server information.I know some people here are quite in the know on such things, so any ideas?
Theoretically, anything is possible.
Except this.
ok...
I suppose someone (*glances at Bay*) could get a single-player client working, but it would be extremely limited. Maybe we could run around the world, and that's it. No NPCs, no missions, no vendors, nothing. Just the world geometry, our character (probably naked) and maybe the weather cycle.
I think it's worth a shot.

I totally second that (erm, as long as it's legal, of course...). Although I'd prefer something to be done about the naked part It's just my personal stance, but if I had to single out the aspect of MxO I'm most (emotionally) attached to, and sad of losing forever, it would be... the world with its music and weather cycle. It actually ended up as a source for some awesome artistic (drawing) inspiration for me - I got one really decent International drawing together some time ago, and use to pick up other similar projects from time to time.(I know it's not "awesome" by any "serious artistic standards", but, you know, just on my personal part.)Thanks to the RSI forums, I know I'm not the only one, either - so maybe having the ability to "run around the world" (without lag, even ) wouldn't be all that bad, either.
Didn't see this thread before making this one http://forums.station.sony.com/mxo/..._id=36300028885
If SOE makes (or outsources) the creation of a single player version it's theoretically quite possible. As in the thread above, lower profit margins estimates for SOE/other company could easily be calculated.
No, just been checking out the General forums lately I doubt SOE are going to do anything like it just like that - maybe "getting the community together" might work, although who knows. Surely posting a few threads on the forums won't achieve anything...But yea, would be REALLY cool, at least to me.
SOE doesn't gain anything by letting the matrix franchise lie in their cupboards . Out of sight, out of mind... and for the application itself... code rots (for real).
I doubt SOE would let big new matrix games be made right now: 1) fear of another company doing it better 2) Fear on the part of the other companies looking at the past track record of matrix games.
But conversion is to SOE I think still an acceptable thing as long as it doesn't cost them. Why not make a pre-order item on amazon.com e.g. and measure how much interest there is... heck, I preorded Spores and Black&White long before the games were finished.
By the way... anyone still have hopes there will be a "real" restart of MXO with the current subscription base.
And off topic... may be it's not nice towards SOE, but I expect the Agency is going to blow up right in their faces, which serves them right for killing off MXO . Right after the Agency goes life they will get sued by at least 1 firm of which I'm aware off. And looking at their previews I see at least 1 other claim for infringement. Maybe some of the SOE lawyers should be involved in beta-testing the game
Yeah, no.
idk if its possible but this just reminds me of one time when my internet got disconnected mid-game instead of the black out I was able to run around all of downtown still only thing was I couldn't use abilties or any npcs that should have been there were gone except for the ones i could see when it happened... oddly enough hardlines were still poping up so i ran around noting locations so that when i jacked back in i could get them.

Sometimes in the past I've gotten disconnected while ingame. I can still run all around the whole district but I just cant interact with anything.
