Volume Issues

Every time I'd turn down the volume in MxO to listen to music, etc, I would still hear very loud gunshots and Hack animation sounds in the background amongst other things. It's been a problem forever. What causes this, and what can be done about it?

I use to have the same problems even if I reinstalled the game, then when I reformatted my hard drive the problem stopped.

Whenever I alt-tab to start the player after I started MxO, that's how I get this problem most of the times, though others are for just alt-tabing as I have only one display setup.

It may not be quicker then Alt-Tab but I use the windowed mode to use my media player when necessary. Using it this way I've not experienced that issue.
