I noticed this the other day as well.

Sure, it sucks.  I wasn't the least bit surprised.  It's what I've come to expect from SOE and the utter lack of MxO marketing.

Here's some proof of SOE's lack of MxO interest that's hard to argue...

The Matrix Online
transferred to SOE August 15, 2005.
Vanguard: Saga of Heroes (developed by Sigil Games) launched January 30, 2007 and was acquired by SOE on May 15, 2007.  SOE also retained over half of the original developers from Sigil.

Do me a favor and check out the Vanguard site.  Notice something?  Yeah, there's content and features!  It's on the same scale as EQII.  If you haven't seen DN1 lately, it hasn't changed--at all, since an SOE intern originally spent an hour in Dreamweaver "making" it.  Forgive me, they did add the 10 or so new screenshots between then and now.

So, Data Node One has been around for about two years and a few months, and is content and featureless.
In much less than a year, the Vanguard community site has leaderboards, content updates, bug lists, guild search, player search, etc.

Part of this, I will admit, is probably because MxO doesn't track some features for a site like this to work.  But, it's not just about stats.  It has to do with new media, community importance (which has drastically improved because of Virrago, and I do thank him for that), etc.  I love how the second anniversary picture is still on the index of the site, as we are approaching the third anniversary. -_-  Rarebit even drew up a spec for merely listing the top PvPers by weekly CQ gain.  Yes, CQs aren't the most reliable gauge of PvP since they're still exploitable, but that would have looked good for the game.  Also, I'm sure if that were functional on DN1, time would have been allocated to fix CQs.

Notice, I haven't even touched aspects about the game, apart from the inherent CQ flaw.  This lack of affinity for MxO is reflected in DN1.

Yes, we are like the son that is born with some defects and is rejected by his family.

This is honestly absurd. If Fan Faire is in Vegas I'm definately ignoring fun for an hour to search for someone who can get this fixed. Crusade anyone?

Sorry, I'm muslim. Jihad?

Uh, there'd better not be anyone from Web Presence at Fan Faire. I'm liable to do something truly horrible to them. SMILEY Maybe smack them round the head with a book on programming Java.

(This does not constitute a threat of violence. It's a joke.)

I meant like Ashlanne or Virrago. I won't slap Virrago, he's awesome. Ashlanne is a maybe. I could just seduce her.

Nah, they're community management. They can edit their own sites at most, though even Virrago still has to go through Web Pretentious to get half the stuff done 'cos they haven't given him the right tools. Walrus suffered the same problems.

We need someone either from Web Pretenders or Marketing do deal with the sort of issues highlighted by this thread.

One step at a time. Shake down one person, shake down the next. See where I'm going?

Yeah, but we've already pursued the community ladder.

Raijinn & Virrago -> Ashlanne -> Moonlite -> Brad Wilcox.

Wilcox expressed concern, but we don't seem to have seen much improvement other than increased airtime in the podcasts (which is great, but clearly not resolving the issue, as this thread demonstrates). We need a new line of attack.

We need to find this guy:

Jacob Robinson, Director of Web Presence

Edit: He looks like Paul Denton.

Proc, that man is the enemy, as such how DARE you compare him to Paul Denton.

To be fair, Paul did look a little silly, at least in DX2. I wouldn't dream of comparing Mr Robinson to JC, though.
