ok so i select kung fu for close combat (cc) and set guns for free fire (ff). sometimes using guns slams my fighting style out of kung fu and into basic self defense.
now, i tried what was suggested to me in-game (use kung fu for both cc and ff), but hey, i want to shoot from ff. even so, i DID set it up this way to try it out. even then, whenever i use head-butt or cheap shot, they put me back to self defense style.
so anyway, i'm going to see about setting up some macros -- it looks like i can do that. but is there an easier way to fix this? plus, this game has been around for a while now, so i find it hard to believe this is a bug and not a feature that i just don't understand...

dedic
this is normal, if you use a gun in free fire it will take you out of kung fu even if your primary is set to kung fu, as guns need self defense as their stance if you have a MA tree loaded, as guns are used in self defense, you dont use martial arts stance for guns, so when you fire a gun itll put you back into self defence, when you pull into IL you just click the martial arts button on your hotbar to go back to kung fu
Z covered it pretty well, but as an addition, there's a couple low level combat moves that have default combat styles attached to them... default styles that may not be mentioned in game. Use one of these moves, and you'll be put into the move's default combat style (if you have it loaded, otherwise I believe your style will stay the same).
From what I can recall:
Cheap Shot - Self Defense
Headbutt - Self Defense
Overhead Smash - Karate
Iron Guard - Aikido
Guard Breaker - Kung Fu
As Z said, gun moves also have default combat styles which are usually pretty easy to decipher, and if you don't have the right style loaded, you'll be dropped into Self Defense when you use them.
thanks guys; you put reason behind it. it still kinda sucks to have to manually change it back tho...
I had the same problem, except I learned the higher level you get, and the more abilities from your tree of choice you indulge into, the less it happens. Eventually you will replace your old specials for your new ones. Once this happens, you will hardly ever leave your Kung Fu stance. So it gets better as you level up.

thats true, alltho i learnt at lvl 33 onwards youve got a long way to go before you get new abilities and a lot of mem points to spend, so i load either kung fu or karate with my abs upto piston kicks / ki charged punch depending on my tree, then since its 5 to 6 levels till your next ab, can load the Aikido tree also with no abs, just the tree on its own so you can switch from attack to aikido it for the defenses mid fight if you need it
Best thing I've seen to do, is if you use an ability that switches styles, just keep Kung Fu on your interlock style, and hit it after you use a move that switches out of the style, such as Cheap Shot. Use that move, then immediately after it hits (or misses :S), hit your - key or click that particular icon and it'll put you back in Kung Fu stance, albeit depending on how quick you hit it, may have to go a round in self defense.
Hope that helps even more.
Yeah MA's encounter that problem. I'v just got the aikido stance on 1 of my hotbars so whenever i use a gun, i can instantly change back into the stance.
As a solution, I suggest putting Kung Fu on your hotbar and everytime you use an ability that is not KF, let the system change your style, but then tap KF on your hotbar and switch it back immediately.

yes, this is what i do. i've pretty much developed an autonomic response to seeing the self defense icon show up.
it just kinda sucks to start playing a game that's been around for so many years and see all these things that should have transparent solutions and not require manual workarounds. until now i never truly appreciated the open lua ui in another mmo that shall remain nameless, hehe.
thanks all,
This is what i did:
1. I put this to the 15th hotbar line's 1st place:
/macro KungF /invoke KungFu;
2. Then I put this to the former place of my cheapshot icon:
/macro cs-KF /cancel;/invoke CheapShot;/pause 60;/use 1 15;
It needs to wait 60 as the occasional failure of the Cheap Shot lasts longer, therefore it doesnt let the macro
to activate Kung Fu as it does when it succeeds. So when Cheap Shot succeeds you wont see immediately
to turn back Kung Fu, but it still turns back very-very fast and at least it turns back for sure.
Also, when you initiate Close Combat, wait a second until they solidly engaged, before you hit cs-KF button,
otherwise the beginning of the Close Combat animation maybe stops starting it.
During Close Combat it works perfectly, only at the very beginning you need to keep an eye on
the real Cheap Shot Button, to see if its hotbar number started to yellow-red blinking.
Therefore you need to still keep the Cheap Shot button visible on your hotbar all the time,
if you want to be 100% sure, that it started. (only at the very beginning of Close Combat you need this)
I have also tried to make this in one single line, but I didnt succeed, if someone can do it, please let us know!
Good Luck!
thanks, i did try a macro. it does work but that just brought up another issue that i also posted about -- i want to see the ability icon image where my macro icon is. i don't want two icons clogging up the first two slots of my hotbar, and don't like switching between hotbars, so there's no solution that satisfies me. i will just deal with turning kung fu on after it gets switched out.
