No, I have not. I've even apologized for the possibility of being taken as such, as I understand that questioning someone's opinion can be treacherous waters.

I have voiced my opinion in a calm, composed, and respectful manner. If doing that is considered goading, then these forums should be shut down entirely.

Just because Cap0ne has special items doesn't mean his opinion isn't valid

Actually, it does, in the event that he's voicing that those very same specials items don't matter.

Of course, as I said previously, he could gain credibility in his opinion by deleting said special items, considering he's downplaying their value so much. In which case, I'd accept his stance as I did Puck's.

But, alas, talk is cheap.

And I have several items myself - the difference is that he has both of arguably the most coveted special items in the game. The ones everyone desires, and that neither you nor I have (as far as I know) - that's a huge leap from hyperjump beta, mobius code, or the beta clothes.

Again, it's kind've like a rich guy saying "Money isn't everything!" to the hobo begging for a quarter.

Not really deep, more like people yelling their opinion at other people then immediately covering their ears and going 'lalalalalalalalalala...... lalalalalalala' while the other person responds.

The reason why this has happened has been stated, stated to death I might add. Some 'Vet's' agree with it, some 'Vet's' don't most inbetweeners agree with it. Not everyone is ever going to be happy, but then the conversation took a turn about items reserved for Beta. Beta items should be kept for Beta people, I couldn't care less about beta clothing but, if new players start getting the items due to a marketing incentive, surely 'Vet's' can see why we're a bit miffed as we'd be able to see why they should be miffed that people are getting them.

A Vet reward system can be put in place and if spent long enough everyone will get the rewards anyway.
So players who were in beta can be now be distinguished just by the Beta gear... Oh and the reputations they've built up.

Oh ya, i know why the arguments are going on, guess i was just stating the obvious in that one. me personally, i like collecting everything in MxO, that is how I have been for a long time. I have HJB, Mobius, almost every archive item, collector items, event items since race to find neo, the whole deal. in a way its like, alright, i dont really mind everyone can get these items because the vets and trials get em, now for everyone in between, yada yada. On the other side of that, its like wow, just another reason why being vet is pointless when everyone gets the items anyways...i don't know...it's a coin flip, not sure whose side im on yet...if i choose one...

I saw it as such and didn't see the apology. My apologies.

If I were to defend, I would say he's downplaying only these items, but he said the word all. His opinion still counts in mine, though it's a dumb one.

I was talking more of awakening stuff (both of them)

In the end, there can be only one Highlander.

So... with no veteran rewards and now this and the loss of cinematics....

Two questions remain:
  1. how many of what is needed to buy Beta clothes?
  2. Same question but to become The One?

*sigh*

Hate repeating myself.

HJBeta is not a MXO BETA ITEM for God's sakes. It was a promotional item for pre-order back then, they (Monolith) made it an account flag so no matter what characters you make, you get it. SOE used it again as a single character promotional item. It had nothing to do because in beta. People think it does because you preordered the game obviously and the line was smudged.

Mobias was released at a time when Monolith was pushing/promoting the Death of the Destroyer storyline and there was some advertising on it (I did see TV ads at that time). If you came on then, boom, you had it. SOE recycled it like HJBeta into a new promotional system, the Buddy Key Trials.

Both are promotional. Nothing more nothing less. They aren't tradeable for that reason. Now, for those who don't take advantage of that promotional time frame, this is available for lvl 50s to obtain because lets face it, it looks like the hard NPCs drop the gum. Not everyone and their dog is gonna have it instantly. Mobias rarely turns the tide in battle. HJBeta is RARELY used on its own except for new players or those who use that and Seraphim shoes to get a nice jump.

Promotional items are not Vet rewards. We don't have vet rewards. These aren't handed out like candy like how most got them in the first place. There is some work to be done to get these on the side, and I'm all for that.

However (I sense someone is gonna poke me with this), there is an exception, the Burning Eye Trench. This was something Max PC did in conjunction with Monolith at the time. A one time promotion (I believe it was even stated in the magazine it was a one time promotion).

RE Beta Clothes: Beta clothes were given to players who transitioned their beta accounts into live ones.  These should not be given out (like the hats/gloves but thats a different issue)

RE: Translocation Program: Promotional item Rare now distributes at Live Events. I don't see anyone whining about those ever.

I enjoy this change, and I thank the devs for it.

And for reference about HJB, I cite the pre order card:

Preorder Card:
Congratulations Red Pill!

Thank you for preordering The Matrix Online. You have now been released from the body pods and are ready to begin exploring the Matrix.

As a participant in The Matrix Online preorder, you will get the following:
  1. Access to The Matrix Online beta test (we will send you an e-mail when you are able to get in)
  2. Advanced level Hyper-Jump ability in The Matrix Online (you and your fellow preorder participants are the only ones who will be able to Hyper-Jump from the first day The Matrix Online goes Live)
  3. Three day entry into The Matrix Online (you will be able to jack in and play the game three days before The Matrix Online goes live ot the public)
To use your preorder key (and the rest is just steps)

Thanks.
The Matrix Online Team

I was perfectly fine without both items and meh, I agree that at least HJ Beta shouldn't have been given out.

/facepalm

Great! SMILEY<img src= So you're gonna give me all the experiences and memories that Beta players had during Beta and the status of being a Beta player? The exaggeration is now getting ridiculous.

If peoples only idea that Beta was special because of Mobius and HJ-B then you mustn't have been playing it very well.

There is no indication that Beta clothing or anything else that 'Vets' have will be given out (I say given out but it's not given freely) just the 2 (two) abilities that were given away to pre-orders and trial players.

/sigh

Yep, like when we had the Beta "Eye" Sky... remember that, that was fun... and runing around killing the Assassin, I had such fun that day... and chasing Morpheus around and fighting him, that was awesome!
*subbed just before CR2/Blue Sky so missed all that stuff*

When the servers have finally been put out of their misery and years from now when I am talking to the friends I made here, I will sooner be talking about what fun we had rather than my Perp Red Eye SMILEY
But each to his own I suppose... yes I like collecting items but you can put a vendor slap bang in the middle of Mara C who is selling Perp Red Eyes for 1$i and I'll just remember spying on Agent Pace for the Merv to get mine and the Email from the Merv himself I got it in ^^

Amen.

The experience is rewarding enough. Anything else is just a bonus.

It is all about the experiences.

I've had all kinda of experiences in this game and I've not ever gotten a "special" item, aside from a Scanline receiver, which has become next to nothing to have to be blunt about it.

But I have met Agent Gray one on one, and met Pace with AliceThePattern for a very privatized meeting.

Those are the things that I will always remember about this game.

No item can make up for Agent Gray "c*ckblocking" me on top of the monument in Murasaki.

What about dancing the night away with Agent Pace after an operation, the only redpill to get to do so?

That led to a string of in-jokes at live events for more then a year.

Thats what I'll take from this game, the enjoyment of things like that.

Not an item.

Now, would I like some special item? Of course, but I figure it's just a matter of time and luck, so it doesn't bother me to much, it isn't like those items are given out for something that validates personal RP or fun. Their just items given out in relation to events.
