Hi

I've just installed the game on my new PC but am having problems downloading the patch that the game has. It goes so far upto a file called rezmap.ltb and just comes to a stop. I was wondering why this might be and if there is something I can do to fix it?

Hello  SolidSnake

I have a couple of things to try.

First locate that file in your MXO folder and rename it to badrezmap.ltb ,  afterwards  open "My Computer" right click on the drive that EQ is installed on (most likely C drive) and select Properties, then click on the Tools tab, click on the "Check Now button" and after Error Checking is finished running click on "Defragment Now" (Both of these may take a while to run depending on the size of your hard drive), then try the download again.

If that does not resolve this for you let's look for something that may be blocking your connection.

First disable background programs:

  1.  Select the START button.
  2.  Select RUN.
  3.  Type in "msconfig" (without the "SMILEY
  4.  Press OK
  5.  Select the STARTUP tab.
  6.  Click on disable all. (If you are using Windows 98 or ME you will need to uncheck every thing but scan registry and systray)
  7.  Hit apply and then OK. Restart the computer

After you restart:

  1. Select the Start Button
  2.  Select Run.
  3.  Type in services.msc.
  4.  Press OK
  5.  In the Services window look for the line Internet Connection Firewall/ Internet Connection Sharing or Windows Internet Connection Firewall/ Internet Connection Sharing; right click and select stop if it is available.
  6.  Repeat for any Firewall or Antivirus Programs that you have installed.

Please note, I am not suggesting that you play MXO with your system unprotected rather these steps are offered in order to help troubleshoot.

The other thing to keep in mind is that the initial patch after installation is anywhere from 2GB to 5.5GB (depending on install from CD or Direct2Drive). So it may be working ... just taking a long time.

If you computer or internet connection are a little slow the download can time out as well. Re-starting the launcher will resume the download from where it stopped.

I uninstalled and reinstalled just to be sure but yeah it always gets stuck on this one file. The patch filesize is only 385.9mb and I'm on a 2MB connection so it shouldnt be taking this long. I tried doing the steps mentioned but nothing changed.

This may or may not be the problem but I did "upgrade" to Vista and was worried about MXO not working on it. Guess I was right?

I too just purchased the game yesterday from direct2drive and the update has been going for over 24 hours now. It is nowhere near done and I'm on high speed.

Is there a mirror site somewhere? This can't be right.

Just to let everyone know that my problem is now fixed, turns out that I had too many antivirus progs running when downloading the patch...they were conflicting with each other, so be careful of that anyone else who has this problem!

A little piece of advice, I'd only run one anti-virus program. Running two normally causes more problems then they are worth (as you found out). SMILEY
